Author Anthony Horowitz loves nothing more than when a young fan asks him to sign a battered copy of a book in his Alex Rider series — young adult fiction featuring a skateboard-riding teen spy. The series’ ninth and final novel, Scorpia Rising, will be published in April 2011.

9.57am. Friday, 16th July.

I’m sitting in the Grange Hotel in York and I have just written the last sentence of the last Alex Rider novel, SCORPIA RISING. The last chapter is called “Departures” and it’s incredibly sad.

Rewriting starts when I get to Crete. But I just thought I’d mark the moment with this brief blog. This afternoon I’m being given a doctorate by York University. Quite a day.
