A News blog for Anthony Horowitz

Christmas seems to have come tearing round the corner at around 100mph and it couldn’t come soon enough for me. Reaching the end of the year has completely exhausted me with tons of work including two new scripts for FOYLE’S WAR, being shot next February, plus original short stories for the New Statesman (PRISONER 2412 – you can find it in the Christmas edition) and the Sunday Times (THE OLD MAN OF N3, a horror story, it’ll appear in January), watching cuts of the 2009 TV series, COLLISION and working on the new Alex…about which, more in a moment.

OLD MAN OF N3, a rather grim tale about an MP3 player and the misery of getting old, will probably appear in my new collection of horror stories appearing on Halloween, 2009 which will be either my 35th or my 36th published book. COLLISION is an epic, five-part series based on a multiple pile-up on the A12 and I honestly think it’s the best work for television that I’ve done with a fantastic cast headed up by the brilliant Douglas Henshall (from Primeval) and featuring one of the most expensive car crashes ever filmed for TV. Oh…and can I mention that I’ve got a short play called A HANDBAG which will be doing the rounds as part of the National Theatres “Connections” programme next year? Do look out for it!

I was really happy that NECROPOLIS did well this summer and thanks to everyone who went out and bought it…around 190,000 of you, or so I’m told. Lots of people thought it was the best one in the series so far and I’m looking forward now to the fifth volume which will finish the adventure as each one of the five gatekeepers travels across the world to meet one final time…with civilisation crumbling all around them. Even I have no idea when the book will be finished but as it will probably be about 200,000 words long and will include a series of fairly epic battles, it could be a few years.

The important thing is to get on with Alex 8 and the good news is that the plot is more or less bolted down and, better still, I finally have a title and that’s the whole point of this brief Christmas message. Exactly one week from now I’ll be in Kenya, hopefully relaxing in the sun, but also searching out some of the locations – jungle, the villain’s island hideaway and a giant dam – because that’s where the second half of the book takes place. As for the title, I’ve been struggling for the last six months, searching for something short and snappy (quite literally as it turns out) and I’ve even been offering money when I’ve been on school visits although sadly with no success.

Recently inspiration struck and finally, finally I have a title which I have actually concealed inside this blog and anyone who has read THE SHORTEST HORROR STORY EVER WRITTEN (More Horowitz Horror) will know how to find it.

So – I hope you like it and I wish everyone a fantastic Christmas and a prosperous, healthy New Year.

I quite like that title, nice work. Lol, snappy, quite literally indeed Anthony.

  2. Dahlia December 17th, 2008 8:15 pm

Sadly, I’ve never read any of the Horowitz Horror books and don’t know how to find the title. Does it have anything to do with the bold, capatalized words? Is it in this post or another one? Oh, this is killing me! I really want to know what the next Alex Rider book is called. I love those books! And Gatekeepers! They are my all time favorites of all the books I’ve ever read. :)

  3. Sabrine December 19th, 2008 4:42 pm

I’ve read all the Alex Rider books several times and I am an absolute huge fan of Anthony Horowitz. Alex Rider’s adventures are just amazing! I’m so happy to hear that there might be an 8th one! I just can’t wait!!! Please, Anthony, make it the best ever!
Oh and one more thing… will there be a second movie (Point Blank) after Stormbreaker? I hope so… I think the first movie was great! If there will be a movie can anyone please just let me know! Thanks. Alex Rider, you’re the best!

  4. Aella December 19th, 2008 8:05 pm

Yes! Take your time! We all know that eight is going to be absolutely incredible. The hardest part is waiting for it to be absolutely readable as well. I plan on reviewing it on our book blog as priority uno =D

  5. Tanthaz December 21st, 2008 12:02 am

I love Anthony Horowitz! I read all of his books about 9999999999 times each! I can’t wait for the next Power of Five books and the Alex books! I wish the world was in trouble and some hero from Anthony’s books would be there to save us! In fact, I don’t mind if we weren’t saved – makes an interesting Christmas! Well maybe not, now I think of it. I’ll never know what happened the the Five, maybe you could end the world after your next few books come out. In fact, when I finally make a book I’ll have your name in the acknowledgements! Though probably no-one will read this so I’ll just finish up. You’re in my top 1 Anthony! (After Christopher Paolini)

  6. Arshene December 21st, 2008 7:58 pm

I love the Alex Rider series. When I read that series it was the first series that i have ever ACTUALY liked. I am hoping that you will make Point Blanc a movie, but if you don’t it’s fine with me. JUST MAKE MORE ALEX RIDER BOOKS!

  7. Michael December 22nd, 2008 2:47 pm

Merry Christmas Anthony. Hope you have a relaxing break – even if just for a few hours. You deserve it.

  8. G.J. Frye December 23rd, 2008 9:01 am

    I love the title!

I actually have no idea what it is but I bet I will love it when I figure it out. I’m from the U.S. by the way, and I want you to know that I think your books are amazing. Seriously, you give me inspiration to be a writer someday. Even if that isn’t my career, I will still write on the side. Good luck for your future success and God Bless!

Dear Mr Horowitz. Thank you for your wonderful books. My “sporty” 12-year old son and 16-year old daughter, love your stories, especially the Alex Rider series. My son, also Alex, has been reading your stories since the age of 10. Even I have read all the books that we have been able to hold of. Unfortunately our library does not stock many of your stories but every single book gift voucher we receive is used to by your books. Alas, you have spoilt us,as no other author captivates my children as your stories have.
I recommend your Alex Rider books to every single mother who complains about their children not reading. Those who have taken my advice, say that their children had not put the books down once they had started reading.
We look forward to more adventure stories about Alex Rider.
Thank you from the German South Africans in Cape Town!

That was a very clever way of hiding it anthony!
    Looking forward to it!

Your awesome stories have captivated me since the age of 11 and I hope to see the newest book to the gatekeepers collection, Necropolis, in Borders sometime soon. I wish you the best in writing more books and a Merry Christmas/ Happy New year vacation from Whittier, California.

  12. Ian Comerford December 30th, 2008 2:07 pm

In a world where children often prefer pressing buttons and staring at screens to reading, you might like to know that your writing, especially where Alex is concerned, is inspiring many to sit and quietly read. It also inspires some pretty interesting letters written to Alex by children who simply admire his ‘style’ and stretch themselves in many ways intheir writing. Thank you.

    Dear Mr Horowitz

Merry Christmas and happy new year!!

My name’s Natalia and I’m from Spain. I’ve read lots of your books – specially Alex and the Gatekeepers’ – and i love them! I’ve created a Spanish fansite about you!

    Thanks for reading me!

  18. Deb Lehman January 3rd, 2009 8:08 pm

Dear Mr. Horowitz, I am a big fan of Foyle’s War. It’s one of the best dramatic mystery/history series ever! Love the writing and acting and applaud your mastery of symbolism, subtlety, and attention to detail. I’ve been hoping for new post war episodes. Fifty Ships and The French Drop contained elements of foreshadowing. According to your blog, you have just written two new ones. I’m thrilled! I’d like to see DCS Foyle have a romance. I also want to see how a relationship between Andrew and Sam develops. Intelligent, high-quality TV is rare and your work has enriched my life. Thank you.

  19. Blaise January 4th, 2009 6:52 pm

Im a huge fan of the Alex Rider series i hope you come out with more alex rider books. They go so fast because i read them in like a few hours. i also read the gatekeepers series a couple years ago, they were really amazing too. The Alex Rider series kept me up very late some nights, to about 2:30 in the morning. thats how brilliant they really were. keep up the good work Anthony. :). o and it would be cool if in the next Alex Rider book if you made some evil criminal that had a mechine that could turn people into zombies or something.

    Best of luck Anthony!

Your books are a true inspiration to me. As a young college writer myself, I can only dream of aquiring your level of knowledge, expertise, and wit. You are truly a very gifted writer and I hope someday to have the joy of writing as you do. Thanks for writing on here too! I find your comments about your writing and your career just as inspirational as your books! If anything, you should write here more often! lol 😉

  21. Hannah Sharland January 5th, 2009 5:58 pm

Wow, I’ve just finished reading Necropolis! I’ve been waiting to buy it since it came out but I had to wait until christmas! It was killing me! Every time I went into a book store I had to find it and read a little. It is brilliant! You are the best author ever, I can never wait to read the next Alex rider or Power of Five! I live in the UK and I have plans for my own book series. Since I was 10 my ideas have gradually been growing and coming together. I can always think of a new event for my story after reading a good book because they inspire me. Most of those books have been yours. Though I like to write I also enjoy art so I often find it hard to prioritise. I like the fact that Scarlett is your first female character because she has an interesting personality and a fantastic power! When I write I have to find out about all of the places that my characters visit but I’m guessing that you have visited most of the places in your books. One day I hope to become a successful novelist and travel to places for inspiration. Thank-you very much for all of your brilliant stories and I can’t wait to see more in the future!

From the Great White North, and good news, Necropolis comes to Canada April 1, 2009!I knew you wouldn’t let Canada down Anthony Horowitz!

  23. Nick January 7th, 2009 6:35 pm

OMG!! This sucks, I cant find that title, I really need to know it!!

I am currently reading Necropolis (chapter Master of the Mountain) and I love it!! I love the way that you havent really given much more infomation about the old ones and I guess you are leaving that to the least book. I think that this is the best book in the seris so far! The way the it jumps from real life to dream world! I LOVE IT!!!!
And when are are you going to tell us what Scarlets power is?? That is the killer thing I want to know?? I think it should another physical power (not like matts tho), something fire throwing (or an elemental power, if you know what I mean) or invisibility or both!!

Also I can not wait until you bring out the next Alex Rider book

Also I love all your books, and I am looking forward to your brand new seris, whatever it might be!!!!?!!!

  24. Pieter January 7th, 2009 9:09 pm

    Dear Anthony,

I am absolutely delighted to hear that Foyle’s War is returning. Your series is charming, clever and very true to the real-life events that happened back in those days ago.

I know this sounds silly, but has Michael Kitchen signed up for it yet?

    Best Wishes

  25. Micahel January 8th, 2009 9:51 am

    Hi Anthony.

Your play ‘A Handbag’ is sooo good! Im part of one of the groups (stage-fright) from the National Theatres ‘connections’ I have the great honor of playing one of the parts (the one begining with K) i absolutly love it!

    Thanks (sooo good!)

  26. james January 8th, 2009 9:57 pm

just found out the title sounds like it will be a great book. I’m not going to tell anyone how to find the title but I’ll give you a clue…. actually no I wont.

  28. Shouna Falconer January 9th, 2009 5:03 pm

I recently purchased Necropolis for my 10 year old (soon to be 11 year old)son. Since he was reading another book at the time, I seized the chance to read it first. For the next 3 days I spent every spare moment reading it and was unable to put it down. I think anyone who disregards the Power of Five books or Alex Rider simply because they are primarily for children, is missing out on fantastic reads. My son read it shortly after me and found it equally engrossing. We are frustrated with the knowledge that there will be a long wait for the final book, but I can’t think of a better reason than that the author is working on the next Alex Rider. I await it eagerly, as does my 14 year old elder son.

  29. Alexandra January 9th, 2009 11:13 pm

Gah, I really want to read Necropolis. I love twins and I’m ding more about them and find out Scarlett’s powers. Anyway, I just love your books and I manged to get 2 other people to read them too and they’re big fans now too. :)

  30. T.y. January 11th, 2009 2:36 pm

Cheers from the Great Great white North, all waiting in suspence for Necropolis in April 1, 2009.I really was thinking of this, how about a Raven’s Gate movie? Even though my favroite gtae keeper is Jamie I would still love for Matt to be seen on the big screen, no matter how long it takes for the flim to go north. That’s all, and cheers from the Great White North!

  31. Jordan January 12th, 2009 4:12 am

Hey Anthony. I absolutley LOVE your Alex Rider books!!!! I’m Starting to read Snakehead and so far its really good! i looked up on and asked about the 8 alex rider book. it said at the very end that there was going to be some “relationship” between Alex and Sabina. On my opinion, i dont think you should write about alex getting older because in all of the first 7 books he has been 14 and then all of a sudden he’s married to Sabina ( this is also what i heard on ) and has 2 kids? i think you should do the 8th book on alex being 16 and just being able to learn how to drive. then the 9th start talking about how he and Sabina start dating, then the last have alex be married to sabina and have 2 kids ( like ( i think) the 8th 1 you were going to do if you were going to do the 8th 1 like that). And for those last 3 books of alex rider still have action because thats what kids like to read dont just turn them into something romantic. again this is just 1 of my opinions and im also just a fan of the Alex Rider books so you can just ignore all of what i just said.

  32. Julia January 12th, 2009 12:31 pm

    to. my favorite author Anthony.

i read all the Alex Rider books, all of the Power of Five books and few others, and i absolutely LOVE them!!!

i just finished reading Necropolis today, and i soooooooooooooo want to read the 5th one. i’m really curious about what will happen to the gatekeepers in the 5th book. plz write it soon and end my curiosity.

and will there be movie for Point Blanc? i hope so. i totally loved the first movie.

hope to read the 5th volume of the Power of Five soon. and the 8the volume of the Alex Rider series.

thank you so much for writing great books.

  33. courtney January 13th, 2009 9:04 pm

    Dear Anthony
still loving your books. last time i wrote i said Necropolis was my favourite book but acctually i think it might be Night Rise i love all the action and when the 5 meet its fantastic. also for the 5th book in the series maybe matt and scarlett should start dating but there still has to be lots of action and power using and a battle not a romance. cant wait till the next alex book maybe jack could be held hostage or sabina turns out to be an enemy and tries to kill alex but can’t becaue she has feelings for him and the last book you do of the alex rider series should include everyone findin out alex is a spy, including his school so they all realise why he was always away and the should find out what alex has done for everyone. Love all your books and always will. your books will be the things that i keep with me for my entire life and never top reading! :)
p.s thank you so much for your books

  34. lillyroo January 15th, 2009 9:46 pm

I love both the Alex rider and the Power of 5 series and they have me hooked!!!! i love the stories to death!!! I almost cried when I tryed to find out the answer to the title of the 8th alex rider and couldn’t find it…. Could someone please tell me????

  35. Yet Another Writer January 15th, 2009 11:00 pm

I just finished reading Snakehead for the second time, so I’ll recall all the details once the new book is out. I have a “book memory drive” of around 3-years.

“Alex 8 and the good news is that the plot is more or less bolted down and, better still, I finally have a title and that’s the whole point of this brief Christmas message. Exactly one week from now I’ll be in Kenya, hopefully relaxing in the sun, but also searching out some of the locations – jungle, the villain’s island hideaway and a giant dam – because that’s where the second half of the book takes place.”

Sounds action-packed, just like the other Alex Rider Adventures. One of my favorite series, along with Eoin Colfer’s “infamous” series. My friend seems quite interested in the book as well. I wish you luck Monsieur Horowitz.

  36. Adrian Stoll January 16th, 2009 9:39 am

hey anthony hope you had a great christmas!
I love your books! i thought necropolis was GREAT!! good job! i cant wait for the last one! and the last Alex book, unfortunately i haven’t read any of your horror books so can you please tell me :) anyway
your awesom! i love your books!!! and your awesom!!! again

  37. Tony January 16th, 2009 3:28 pm

I Love The New Title. I can only imagine what its going to be

  38. Chambrez January 16th, 2009 10:39 pm

well , i didnt get the title but i’m gonna put my codebreaking skills to work and try figure it out :P:D

I just want to say thank you oh so much for your books 😀 and i only got them because you were at the book festival two years ago (in cape town , not that i expect you to remember me but kinda hoping you do :)) and i wanted to get a book signed and meet an author. Thank you so much for being there and getting me to read your books. I’ve only read the power of five ones but i’m planning to read alex rider. They are one of my favourite series EVER, today i spent the whole day reading and am nearly finished Nightrise …

HMM . I really hope you make a movie of the five :) as i read i can see the movie in my head , its almost written like a script , with the flashbacks. I can see it , and it would be FANTASTIC 😀 of course , just because i can’t put this out there without saying it. I would love to play Scarlett , not because I’m a budding actress or someone who is praying to get into showbiz (although my name looks kinda starlett-y ) I just think i would make a FAB Scarlett , from the beginning of the series even though she wasnt mentioned i felt a pull towards her and I just had to say it because its been in my head the whole day and I love her so much <3

Thanks for creating a character like her :) and including a girl. I love all of them 😀

Oh ! and the Stormbreaker movie was awesome 😀 REALLY good ! So much better then any other books that have been made movies. But as I said, its written so easily like a movie (which also makes it easy to be part of the story) it would fall easily into place :)

    xx Chambrez

  39. Michelle January 19th, 2009 2:01 am

    Awesome title!!! Love it…
still waiting for necropolis to come out in the US…
good job with all your works ^^

  40. Faye January 21st, 2009 6:02 pm

    Hi Anthony

Im in my mid-teens at the moment and i’m loving the Alex Rider books.

I would love it if there was a film of Point Blanc, but i think that you would have to get an actor who looks very similiar to Alex Pettyfer, as you are changing the main character.

Anyway, keep the books coming and i can wait till the next one comes out.

    Faye x

  41. Nicakio January 21st, 2009 11:00 pm

I have never read “More Horowitz Horror” before but i finally found the code. Very nicely hidden. The title sounds great too I can’t wait for it!

  42. Ryan January 21st, 2009 11:24 pm

Gosh, I can’t crack that code. Really hard. At least it seems, its probably really easy though. Enough of searching for that code though, your books are great! Tonight I’m hoping to get finished with Snakehead(very engrossing by the way). Next I’ll have to begin reading those Power of five books I’ve heard they’re really good! And then after that I’ma going to look for the second Groosham Grange book. Maybe I can finish all that before the end of the month(which I hope because your books are great!) Easily I should soon be caught up.

    P.S. Catch the code?

  43. Jordan January 22nd, 2009 7:44 am

I figured out the title!!!!!!!! It’s very interesting and sounds like it will be a great book!!

  44. Harry Cunningham January 22nd, 2009 10:55 pm

    Hey Anthony,
I have been reading your books since before Scorpia came out! And whenever I hear of a new one I always try to go and get it.
I figured out the title but I have to be honest I looked it up on Wikipedia first! I’m sure as always the book will be so action packed I’ll feel like I’ve just crossed the finhsing line of a big race and I will want to sleep for days!
I almost fifteen now but I’ve been writting since twelve and completed my first novel: THE THREE DAGGERS in march 2008 which was 226 pages, not quite as long as an average manuscript and it could have been a lot more detailed but for a first attempt I was really pleased with it. I sent it out, (after editing it with my freinds: Jack, Tom and Rob, all helping out with the editing and at least ten other freinds contrubuting in some way.) and had a really positve response from the Christopher Little Agency, even though it was rejected. A couple of weeks ago I posted it on the website: Authonomy, which is this really great website where writers can connect and somebody wrote a review of my book! and compared it to yours. I was flattered and honoured. If you get a chance it would be really good if you could check it out because it has loads of aspiring authors on it.

I have now started writting a second novel, which is a series this time of two. I’v decided to do a lot more planning before I start to make it better and that seems to be doing well.

Just wanted to say thanks really because its people like you who write these books that I will spend a whole weekend devoted to, that have inspired me to write my own books, I hope that one day I can have something published…i know you’re busy but maybe if you had some tips and I’m looking foward to reading…Alex Rider 8 almost as much as I’m looking foward to watching the new Harry Potter film. (I’m joking.)
Anyway yeah thanks and sorry for this really bad grammar+spelling not my strong point.

  45. maxence. beauchesne January 23rd, 2009 7:31 pm

I am a fan of Alex Rider, and please, if you can write another book after the 7, its wiil be the best gift you give to your fans

Thank you to take the time to raed our e-mails.

  46. Jo Jo January 23rd, 2009 8:33 pm

Cool title.Love all of your alex rider books.I would like to know if there is going to be another movie of Alex Rider? If so dont change it as much as you did with stormbreaker!!!He is suppost to meet Sabina in Skeliton Key.NOT Stormbreaker! And you missed out the buisness with Nadia Vole tricking Alex!Hope #8 is as good as Snakehead.

  47. vicky January 24th, 2009 12:12 am

i just worked out the title.
    very clever.

cant wait for the next book though, the title suits your style of writing.

    good luck.

  48. KP January 25th, 2009 3:03 am

I love the Alex Rider books!!! So glad you’re writing an Alex 8!
I have an idea for the next few movies(if you decide to make more), since you already made the first book into a movie, I sugguest that you make book 4(Eagle Strike) the next one, then Scorpia, and finnaly tie it off with whatever conclusion you choose.
I think this would be a nice shortcut-rather than making all of the books into movies-because the first movie leaves us hanging hoping that we’ll see Yassen and Sabina again and in the fourth book they come right back into the story. And of course Yassen leaves us hanging at the end of that one…

  49. Tom January 25th, 2009 10:14 pm

Heeeelp I just cant find it and im normally good at this sort of thing. pleeeeeaaaaasssseeeee can somebody who knows the title post a comment that telllss meee. I realllly want to know. by the way nick scars power is to control the weather but she can only predict it yet cause in nightrise in the past scarlett starts concentrating and rain starts covering inti’s approach.

P.S really i need to know this book title so some1 help

  50. AlexM January 26th, 2009 4:37 am

I’m amazed nobody’s spoiled the name in the comments yet. Very clever way of hiding it, and an excellent name to boot. Can’t wait for the book to come out.

    -The /Other/ Alex

Hi! My name’s Laetitia, I’m French and I would like to tell you that I really love the Alex Rider series, it’s amazing!I’m really looking forward to read the next Alex book, and I hope that there will be another Alex movie ! Thank you for these wonderful moments !!

  53. Sarah January 31st, 2009 8:09 am

    Dear Anthony,
I’m 13, I’m from Australia, and I am incredibly, abnormally, unhealthily obsessed with your books! My dream has always been to become an Investigative Journalist….and after Point Blanc, an Author!!!!!!!
Coming to Australia again to tour and promote your incredible books would be like all the christmasses at once to me and so many people I know, but I know that you’re busy, so it won’t be for a while! I remember reading the end of Scorpia! Oh my gosh! I cried, and went out into the lounge to calm down and dad laughed at me, so I read him the last few pages, and I was almost unintelligible through my tears! And the end of Point Blanc was truly amazing, seriously, my jaw was on the floor! I’ve already started my book, it’s about a girl, whose parents were spies, and she takes on the family tradition, working for ASIO, I’m doing sooooooooooo much planning, and my characters are coming along nicely, it’s going to be a series. Can I just say that you’re the best writer ever!!!!!!!!!! Now, I must go out to Angus and Robertson, and buy ‘More Horowitz Horror’, which is a very clever title! My gosh, I NEED to know thst title.
Thanks for providing millions with such wonderful books!
P.S. Alex Pettyfer (smokin hot) was the best choice for Alex Rider in Stormbreaker, but now he’s 18, how would he play Alex again?
P.P.S There are so many things to say now, but I can’t put them all into words, I’m sure evryone on here feels that way, Mr Horowitz, you write the best books anyone could wish for, and I hope that you know that we appreciate them and always will.
P.P.P.S You’re in the acknowledgements for my book!

  54. Tom January 31st, 2009 9:30 pm

Could it have been a better title i dont think so. Robby my mate is still looking for it and he thinks im mean for not telling him. Only I have a question what is the name of the next power of 5 book. Can anybody tell me by the way what they think the best power of 5 book so far actually is and who their favourite character actually is. Oh by the way the name to the book is actually in here as well hidden in the same way. Did I mention that I havnt read the shortest horror story ever. I am a genius. Love the suspense at the end of necropolis but they probaly know where each other have gone. Ending it like that though was cruel on your readers, do you hate us. To the point though. Every auther I have read cannot match you. Anyway got to go. Remenicing for a mo there. so goodbye everyone.

P.S I know this doesnt work because of the name but thats life.

  55. Luke February 1st, 2009 3:17 pm

  56. Natalie February 2nd, 2009 10:33 pm

I am a mum of an 11 year old boy that absolutely loves the whole series of books. My younger son dosen’t like to read so we hired the cd series and the whole family is now upto date with the adventures of Alex rider and can have a great discussion about what is happening. Thankyou we look forward to the new book.

  57. Alli February 3rd, 2009 1:50 am

I am a HUGE fan! I’ve read every book at least a dozen times. I can not wait for the next Alex Rider book to come out. You can not believe how much the books are to my family. These are the only book we can get my brother to read.
I’m counting down the day until Necropolis comes out in America!!!!

  58. Lissa February 4th, 2009 7:59 am

Wow. That’s a really interesting title… I am excited to see where it leads! Such a simple and yet complex code… Good one!
Thanks for all of your hard work on all of your fantastic books! I look forward greatly to your next endeavour.

  59. Laetitia February 7th, 2009 10:53 pm

Hey ! I really love Alex Rider and I wonder if there’s gonna be a Point Blanc movie… I know that a lot of people are in the same case, but if someone knows something about Point Blanc (Pointe Blanche in France), please tell me, because in France we aren’t given much information about Alex… And if someone could tell me what’s the title of the next Alex book, you would be so nice because it’s always the same thing, in France we can’t find the story in which we’re told the title…Please, I hope someone will read my message and help me ^^ ! Thank you so much!!
Anthony, merci de me faire rêver…

  60. helen February 16th, 2009 7:44 pm

    HI Anthony,

As a Year 5/6 teacher I use your books to get reluctant readers into reading! Your books haven’t failed me yet – and I have been teaching year 6 a good few years!!! In fact I still hear from children who still love reading them! We are having a spies and their gadgets week at school and your books take high priority in what we are looking at all week. I can’t wait! A week of Alex Rider!

  61. Parth February 20th, 2009 6:52 pm

    Dear Anthony,

Hi! I’m Parth, from India. I absolutely love your books. I started reading Alex Rider when a friend recommended it. You may be surprised to know that Alex Rider is as popular in India as anywhere else. They are fast-paced and action-backed. I’m currently impatiently waitiing for yur next book. I’m sure it will be as spectacular as the rest.

By the way, loved the new title! Looks like there’s going to be quite a bit of lies and back-stabbing in it 😉

  62. Tamin February 22nd, 2009 8:28 pm

i love your books but my favourite series were the Alex Rider books…im very very sad because i am reading the last book, Snakehead, and i really dont want to finish it even though it is too interesting and its hard to read slow…i know you are writing books that have characters similar to Alex Rider but i dont know why but i really cant let go of Alex Rider and i am not very keen on having to read other books that remind me of Alex. I would say one thing, Alex Rider is an amazing character, one- because he is amazing, two- because his name rocks and three-he is just amazing and he has a lovely personality…well it may seem that i am 14 as well and that is why im mad about him….but no… i just…..just really like the book and there could be no other characters better than Alex Rider…so….im beggin you…..could you please wirte more series for Alex Rider… I know it was meant to be the last book…and i know you are very busy…but im sure EVERYONE will be happy to know that there is another book…it would be like a dream…i’ll be waiting to hear from you…arigato <japanese for thank you. :)

  63. Lauren February 22nd, 2009 10:09 pm

I can’t wait for the new Alex Rider books i absolutely love them! Snappy title and awesome setting, it’ll be interesting to find out what mayhem waits for Alex in Africa! I was 11 when i read my first Alex Rider book and now I’m ALex’s age so I can relate to it really well. Thankyou!!!!

  64. Sean L. February 23rd, 2009 1:42 am

Just dropping a comment to say how much I love your books and how much I am looking forward to your new Alex book. You are one of my favourite authors, and I do have a few favourites (J.K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, Cornelia Funke, Philip Pullman, and you of course!). I got most of the Alex Rider books for christmas, with the exception of Stormbreaker, Point Blanc and Ark Angel. I also got all of the Power of Five books. I haven’t got around to reading all of them yet. I am still on Scorpia, and am pleased with my progress on it (staying up until late on a school night really pays off!)I read Stormbreaker and Point Blanc after lending them from the Library, and the same for Raven’s Gate and most of Evil Star (I read about half of it, but decided to leave it until christmas.) So you are definitely in my top 5 authors.
I’m going to go back and read Scorpia for a while before I go to sleep, I want to find out if Alex breaks in to the Constanto factory, and what happens there. By the way, I loved your reference to Philip Pullmans book, Northern Light in Scorpia, I thought to myself ‘I’ve read that book!’ and smiled. Keep up the good work.

  65. Aneesa Sheikh February 23rd, 2009 2:08 pm

IVE just read the horowitz horror book. its really clever the way its done. i cant believe it was there in front of me all that time. i have to say Anthony Horowitz is the best writer in the world. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the Alex Rider books they are sooooooooooooo good. keep up the amazing work MR H .

  66. Dan. K February 25th, 2009 8:02 pm

I’ve just finnished necropalis I abosolutly loved every page, and i can’t wait to read the fith in the series. Although the ending wasn’t what i excpeted or hoped for it was cleverly done, and probably sets up more adventures in the fith book so i don’t mind to much.

Also can’t wait for the New Alex Rider novel love the way you conealed the tiatal Anthony, AND PLEASE IS THREE GOING TO BE A FILM OF POINT BLANC i just need to know for sure yes or no? please include it in your next blog!!!!!

  67. Rachel March 7th, 2009 12:45 pm

Hey, just wanted to say that i absolutly love the power of five series. I only found the first one in january when i was going on holiday and when i got back i hhd to get the other 3. i read each book in a day. I just couldn’t put them down. I’ve never loved a book soo much. I’m dying to know wether scarlett lives or not but i reackon she will because it makes alot of sense and me and my mate reackon Matt is going to die. It does make sense.

I actually love these books so much that everyone ive recomended it to has gone out and bought them. I would love for them to be made into a movie, but a movie for each book i think it would ruin them if you made all five into one movie like Phillip Pullman did with the His Dark Materials books and made the Golden Compass. Also i have said that if they where made into a movie i would audition for the part of Scarlett because she is a strong character and i love naturally black hair.

Me and my mate have absolutley fallen in love with Matt Freeman because we can just imagine his as being the perfect boy.:P I got kinda lost when i read Nightrise becuase i didnt understand why Diago Salamanda was alive when Matt had accidently killed him in EvilStar but then i realised it was weeks before that heppend. I actually cannot wait for the fifth book to come out. Im begging my brothers girlfriend to give me Ravens Gate back so i can read them all again. Maybe takeing more time this time.

I have to say that Necropolis is my favourite but Ravens Gate comes up close second. Also in all the books you have given extremely amzing detail about everything. The night after i read Necropolis i actually had nightmares about it.:P

Thank you soo much for bringing out such a wonderfuly amazing series. Your my top author. :)

  68. jane March 9th, 2009 11:46 pm

Ok. I’ve read everyones blog and still have no idea what the title of the next book is!!!! My friend and i have been waiting for ages for the newest alex rider book and keep trying to figure out what will happen. I think it will be the most anticipated book in my high school at the moment. The Alex Rider series ROCK! Really enjoyed power of 5. Hate the suspense at the end of the book though.

Looking forward to the new book Anthony

  69. greg March 10th, 2009 12:38 am

Anothony you write the best books ever! Your books are the reasons why I like to write because they show me that writing doesn’t have to be the boring stuff we do in class, it can be as fun and exhilarating as a roller coaster. I can’t wait for the next Alex Rider!

  70. J. H March 10th, 2009 2:09 pm

Your books are the best and I have been waiting long for your eight book to be published! You are my number one author, and its way better than JK’s style.. (please do not be offended by this JK fans…)

  71. jane March 12th, 2009 8:07 am

Crocodile tears what sort of name is that!!! The rest of your books have been fantastic so i hope this one lives up to all the rest. I am looking forward to reading your book. Does anyone know when it will out?

  72. ewan spence April 4th, 2009 6:21 pm

i love all of your books they’re fantastic!!! i hope you make another alex rider film as stormbreaker was excellent. i havent woorked out what the title is yet but as i hope im going to get more horowitz horror books i imagine i will do. i also really liked your “the power of 5″ books but where is necropilis! i went into waterstones a few days a go and i couldnt see it any where. after snakehead i thought that would be the end of alex rider but i am very glad that i was mistaken :) i hope your new A R books will be as good as all the other ones. i havent read any of your books that aren’t in a series yet like, the devil and his boy, ithink thats what its called. and also where do you come from anthony?

  73. Dmitri April 13th, 2009 2:08 am

    Hey Anthony
LIsten i got an idea for your Alex Rider books. You know how you writen 7 AR books, write not one more but five and that will equall up to 12 books and you know how there are 12 months in a year well each book can be part of a month and the last book can be used as his birthday month. So for example the Stormbreaker book can be held in September and the last book can end with his birthday. Im not forcing you to do this but i think its a good idea, but you decide im not the boss. See ya, can’t wait for the AR book 8 to come out and the Point Blank movie.

  74. Parker May 4th, 2009 11:33 pm

I think that Crocodile Tears is a great title. It means “fake tears” so maybe it’s sort of like Eagle Strike, a person who does good stuff just as a front for the bad things he does. Anyways, I’m really excited about the newest book in the series. You’ve been such an inspiration for me and your books, as well as many others such as Tom Clancy’s, have given me tips for my own that I’m writing (STRIKE and HIDDEN). Good luck with everything you’ve got going, Anthony!

  75. Dmitri May 11th, 2009 8:52 am

    Hi AH
Just to tell you i finished Snakehead and i think it was a great book. Im actually trying to write my own spy book but its not finished yet. Hope the next book will be as good as the others.

  76. Abby May 12th, 2009 3:04 am

Omg i love Anthony’s stories. I got caught onto them by just randomly picking Skeleton Key off the shelf in my reading class. I was sooooo confused at first but then i seen there were more. so i read the first one. But when it came to the second one i couldn’t find it any where. then I got the whole set for christmas. Point Blank is my favorite book oh the Alex rider series.
I will beg Anthony to make so many more stories! i haven’t read snake head yet….. but i think he should in some way get them on the big screen they’re so good!

  77. hank July 15th, 2009 10:51 pm

Anthony Horowitz is the best author in the world. I think scorpia is the best book in the Alex Rider series.
I whant to be an author just like Antony Horowitz. I read every book of his but not The Complete Horowitz Horror. I gust love to read books mostly Anthony Horowitz books. The frist book i have ever read of his was The Devil and His Boy it was a relly, relly, relly love that book.

  78. SLC Stoner September 1st, 2009 2:15 am

i got to say horowitz, your about the best author out there. I have 2 questions
    1) after reading your story i still cant infer what the title is
    2) i must inquire on the name of the new gatekeeps book, book 5. what will you call that and how many pages would you hypothesize would be in that book

  79. Ross October 5th, 2009 12:17 pm

I cant wait until the 5th and final book of the Power of 5 comes out when it does i will be finished reading it the day it comes out i love these books and strongly recommend it. If your bored waiting for the book 2 come out i suggest u read other Horowitz books i also recommend the Alex Rider series this series indroduced me the Anthony Horowitz and the Power Of 5 series
    I love all Horowitzs’ books

  80. Ross October 5th, 2009 12:19 pm

i thing in the Alex rider series either Point Blanc,Ark Angle or Snakehead were the best i cant decide tho its 2 tough

  81. Dan October 15th, 2009 1:28 am

Anthony, your books are the best. When I found out that there is one more book left in the Gatekeeper series, I almost cursed at you for holding the suspense for so long. BTW, I hope your 8th Alex Rider book will be the best!

  82. Kendall October 18th, 2009 1:14 am

The 5th Gatekeeper book will be a few years?????
    :/ …

  83. LunaKyria November 17th, 2009 5:34 am

I can’t wait until I can get number 8!! I don’t know when it comes to Australia….all the websites have are the UK & USA release dates. But still!! It should be soon…and like I said, I can’t wait.
I’ve been reading the series since….probably about the same time Scorpia came out, maybe before (I read so much, it’s hard to remember!). My older brother is really into them too, and not nearly as much of a bookworm as I am!
By the way, sad to say I already knew what the title was before I figured out the code…but I haven’t read The Shortest Horror Story Ever Written, so I couldn’t have worked it out anywaw. Besides, I only FOUND this blog ’cause I saw book eight advertised in a book magazine…
Anyways, I seem to remember reading that number eight’s the last one, so I’m not going to entreat you to keep on writing Alex Rider. I’ll just stick with telling you how brilliant I think the series is!

P.S. Sorry for the excess of exclamation marks…I’m excited! And I at least managed to restrain myself from putting in smileys etc.!

  84. nicci December 22nd, 2009 3:24 am

yeahhh i hope u get the 5th one done soon. i can’t wait. love the series! :)

  85. Erik Huang January 3rd, 2010 1:31 am

    Dear Mr. Horowitz;

You’ve taken my school by storm! The jocks, the video gamers, EVERYONE, have started reading the Alex Rider series! Seriously, it’s one of the best series I’ve read in a long time, and most of my classmates think so too!

  86. Jon Little August 17th, 2010 4:13 am

Best books I have ever layed my eyes on. I can really see the effert put into these books. By how the way you:
-Travle to the places the books take place
-Have the perfect ammount of explenation, not to little so i have no idea of whats going on, not too much that i yawn. But what i believe is that there really should be more movies/video games on these. You could probably change the way spy games/movies are made!

(Sorry if there is grammer/spelling issues)

    Your huge fan,
    Jon Little.

Ps. I aperently found myself becomming a reader like you… but anyone can easly spot out its more than fictunal. “Zep Infinity’.
If you have any suggestions I would be extreemly happy to get them from you.

  87. Michael Thompson November 26th, 2010 5:27 pm

i really really really hope you come out with the 5th gatekeepers soon. i just started reading necroplis yesterday afternoon and finished it this morning, it was by far the best because it has the story going for all the characters even though pedro and scott were excluded a lot. it was really exciting and it is my favorite series and alex rider is my 2nd favorite even though im reading the books in a random order

  88. Grégoire Chapelle January 6th, 2011 10:57 am

I’m desperate for the next tome of the Gatekeepers, keep up the hard work, it pays off! Your my favorite author, and seriously, i’m not the reading type of guy. But your books are amazing, and i’m desperate to read the next gatekeepers.

  89. kk March 24th, 2011 3:49 am

Thank you Anthony Horowitz for creating one of my favorite novel series ever. I don’t have much to say but thank you for all the time you spent creating these series. I started to re-read the Power of Five series again I absolutely love it to death. Please take your time with this last novel and don’t listen to the other people that go against me and want it as soon as possible. I want the last book to be great and for something great to happen liek this takes patience. Good luck.

  94. Stephen January 9th, 2012 1:22 am

It says the fifth power of five story will take a few years…. but that was written in 2008. It’s 2012… any word on how publishing is going? I’m really looking forward to it.

  95. Bryce Ryker May 2nd, 2012 11:33 pm

I can not wait for the next book. I love horror. but your horror is the best
