Departures

9.57am. Friday, 16th July.

I’m sitting in the Grange Hotel in York and I have just written the last sentence of the last Alex Rider novel, SCORPIA RISING. The last chapter is called “Departures” and it’s incredibly sad.

Rewriting starts when I get to Crete. But I just thought I’d mark the moment with this brief blog. This afternoon I’m being given a doctorate by York University. Quite a day.

Hi Anthony!!! Its me, Gigi, from your book signing in Pasific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong!!! I was with the Discovery College group!! I published a book and i was wondering if you would like a copy? Also, you are going to be at the book fair in Wan Chai right? I was wondering what day you would be there? Also, i cant wait for the last ‘The power of Five’ book!!!! Hope you like your stay in Hong Kong!!

  2. Dilan July 21st, 2010 1:31 pm

It’s definitely sad to think that Alex Rider’s journey is coming to an end. I feel like I’ve grown up with him!

But it’s also exciting- finding out what happens to him and also anticipating your future projects.

  3. Matt July 21st, 2010 4:12 pm

I know exactly waht you mean Dilan. Loads of is have gone on this journey with alex and now it is finally coming to an end. it really quite sad when you think about it.

  4. Matt July 21st, 2010 11:31 pm

I feel the same as Dillan :( Alex rider was the type of book Whig I read from being about 8, now I’m 13 and I still feel I’ve grown up with him. I have to say though, the power of fives ravens gate and night rise were better than most Alex rider books. I personally think scorpia and eagle strike were in close competition with the night rise and ravens gate. And Anthony two questions please answer them.
    (1) will their be any more movies of Alex rider or power of five out?
    (2) when is the new power of five book coming out?
    Thanks,matt.

  5. juli July 22nd, 2010 2:15 am

I can’t believe the books are finally coming to an end! I have definitely had some great adventures with him! I can’t wait to read Scorpia Rising! I wonder who will die……..????

  6. Matt July 22nd, 2010 2:53 am

Wow so sad. BUT WHEN IS THE NEXT POWER OF FIVE BOOK!

  7. matt July 22nd, 2010 4:15 am

Alex Rider had such a wonderful impact on my preteen years. The worst part about these wonderful stories is that the endings suck, not how they end but that they did end. Imagine if The Dark Knight weren’t to get a sequel.

But and ending is better than nothing and perhaps holds the greatest story to be told. I cannot wait for this book! Thank you, Anthony Horowitz!

  8. Nedaa July 22nd, 2010 5:30 am

Noooooooooooooooooooo i dont want the alex rider series to end!!!!! i hope nothing happens to him?? PLZZZ dont make him die!! LOL im going crazy!!

OMG OMG!! I LOVE ALLLL UR BOOOKS!!! Ur writing is amazing and soooo catching i mean its not boring lame romance like twilight (no offence twilight fans) but seriously its no action(twilight)!!! barely!!

I cant wait for ur next blog and i practically give up looking for the first chapter of scorpia rising when r u ganna just post it so i can sleep?? lol

do u have some kind of email or something im writing a book a bit like alex rider series and i would like ur opinion and ideas

  9. nikolas July 22nd, 2010 8:28 am

  10. Gigi July 22nd, 2010 2:08 pm

I spoke with Anthony yesterday and he said: i will start writing the last power of 5 book next week… AAAAAA cant wait!

  11. anna July 22nd, 2010 3:26 pm

    i cannot wait :D

but i really dont want it to end also if your gonna do any movies do point blanc! or crocodile tears (i read in one day)

are you going to write yassen? if you do i’m sure it’ll be epic!

  12. Soph July 22nd, 2010 3:45 pm

That actually makes me kinda sad!! I read the first Alex Rider book when I was just 8 and now I’m 18, as lame as it sounds I really do feel like I’ve grown up with these characters. I may be legal now but that doesn’t mean I won’t be lining up at the bookstore the first day it’s released! :P

  13. Matt July 22nd, 2010 3:46 pm

Gigi, how did he speak to you?
And thts rubbish if hes not started it yet :( It takes like 6 months straight to write a book and being the last power of five book it should take around 9! Publishing will take like a year. So tht means it’s not out till 2012/13! Aaaargghh if tht’s true, then i’m really annoyed :( I will be like 16 then.

  14. Jenny July 23rd, 2010 2:35 am

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe that alex rider is alerady coming to the end even though I love those books sooooooo much!!!!! I wonder what’s going to happen to Alex and everyone else in the book. I just hope that they wont kill alex or any of the main characters. I soooooooooo cant wait until the last book to come out and read it after when im done crocdile tear first. Also, I cant wait for the next power of 5 series. Those books were the edge of my seat whenever I read them. Thank you for relasing these alex rider series to the world to read, you are an awesome author!!!!! :) <3

  15. Bookworm July 23rd, 2010 11:41 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! How can you do this?!?!?!?!?! After all these adventures it’s ENDING!!!!!!!! And INCREDIBLY SAD?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Just don’t let Alex die! Or any of the main characters! And if it has to be sad, at least give that cloud a silver lining! Thank you SO MUCH for all the Alex Rider books. c:

  16. Bookworm July 23rd, 2010 11:56 pm

I’ve read the 4th Power of Five (or Gatekeepers in Canada) book again and again, trying to figure out what could happen in the 5th book. I think I’ve figured some of it out, but IT’S DRIVING ME MAD that I can’t continue reading! PLEASE! Oh, PLEASE! Send SOME news of the 5th book! I can’t stand it any longer!

  17. a french fan July 24th, 2010 1:39 pm

I agree with Jenny you’re awesome!!!!!
But how will you put the gadget witch win the competition if the book is already written???

I hope Alex’s destiny is not too sad because he underwent so many things that he can be fortunate now!!

  18. Estelle July 25th, 2010 9:03 pm

when is the next power of five book coming out?

  31. Ryan August 3rd, 2010 6:54 am

It seems like yesterday that Stormbreaker started the amazing series and journey of Alex Rider. Now as it draws to an end,in some aspects its sad but in others its a good thing that as fans we can finaly experience a closing chapter in Alex’s life and Mr. Horowitz as well. But at the end of day we know as fans that there will never agian be another Alex Rider book. So I’m sad but,it’s a mix of happiness and sarrow to know that it is finally over.

  32. tatiyoo August 3rd, 2010 9:23 am

  37. Michele August 4th, 2010 5:56 am

I’m heartbroken. I love Alex! I am a school librarian and it’s a great series. I think the other series are ok, but not as good as Alex. I truly hope Alex doesn’t change too much… :(

  38. raphael August 4th, 2010 11:42 am

Wow finally another book in the ALex Rid3r series is finished!!i cant wait to read it but i think the series Power of five is much better and i hope the next book in the series will be just as great or greater than your previous books.B.T.W Could you email me the release date of the next book in The Power of five. Thanks!

  39. Julie August 5th, 2010 12:37 am

God, I read the teaser for Scorpia Rising on wikipedia, and now I’m so impatient to read the book! But also not impatient, because it’s the last of Alex’s mission, and I don’t want it to end. The gadget contest is restricted to UK and ROI residents, and I live in the U.S. :( I had a great idea, too! Anyways, best wishes from a avid fan!

  40. Burns August 5th, 2010 3:12 am

First of all, I would like to tell you that I personally love your books. I read your first Alex Rider book back in 6th grade, and now I’m going into my senior year of highschool. I have read a couple of Power of 5 and I have read both of your scary story books, and trust me, I couldn’t sleep for a couple of days haha.

I hope you start another series soon and you should consider starting another spy novel but with a more mature theme. That would definitely draw a larger audience!

    Yours Truly,
    Burns

  41. Kitten August 8th, 2010 2:49 am

Me also, Burns. Raven’s Gate scared me to a couple of sleepless nights, but after reading that, I knew what to expect from Horowitz when he writes that type of book.

I had discovered Alex Rider from a book report my older brother wrote back when I was in elementary school, and I just had to read the book. I read them backwards, starting at Snakehead (The one he wrote the report on) and in a week or so, getting down to Stormbreaker and seeing how it all began. Now that I’ve actually read the books in order and read Crocodile Tears, this has turned out to be in the top three of my favorite series of all time.

I find your writing style informative and still not too descriptive (Which is great for a speed reader like me), and the way you portray a scene is marvelous.
I learned about helicopters, guns, bullets, and tons of other things while reading your books that I wouldn’t normally learn while in school or doing any other activity (except maybe for watching the Military and History Channel).

I’m sad to know that Alex will soon leave the stage, but it’s been a great ride and the Alex Rider series is one I won’t forget.

I hope you will start another series one day that captures the minds of young and old readers alike, you are a great writer.

    Thanks!
    Kitten

  42. Jesseca August 8th, 2010 12:26 pm

    Anthony Horowitz,

I wanted to leave a really heartfelt reply, but all I can really think of possibly saying is:
    YOUR BOOKS ROCK!!!
I can’t wait tpo read Scorpia Rising!
Not that you don’t know that already, I’m just reminding you.
I’ve been reading the Alex Rider series since Skeleton Key first came out…. And all of the copies of the Alex Rider books I own have become a library to all my friends and family. I’m proud to say that each of my books have memories in them. Memories of where I was and what I was doing at the time I read them.
    Once again, your books rock!

    Jesseca

  43. bobomasters August 8th, 2010 6:04 pm

I think that Mr. Alex Rider will turn cold-hearted and cruel in the beginning of the book (relationship with Jack has changed) OR Jack has done something seriously wrong. The person to die will most likely be Mrs. Jones or Jack, and I think at the end of the book something really good will happen, maybe like getting back on terms with Jack and/or visiting Sabina in San Francisco because he said the book would end in hope. However he said that the book would end and there would be no room for a final book. So maybe Alex dies? I dont know…

  44. bobomasters August 8th, 2010 6:06 pm

but guys please stop saying stuff like OMG OMG OMG because i mean, he has other series right ;)

  45. Markos August 9th, 2010 9:33 am

Even though I haven’t read it i think it’ll be great. Personaly I think everybody should read Alex Rider Novels, they’re the best series of books I’ve ever read. The best one I’ve read so far (just started snakehead) is Skeleton Key. I’m sooooo sad that the series is ending. When I finish the Alex Rider series I’m going to read the Diamond brothers series.

    MarKOs TaZes

  46. Samuel August 9th, 2010 12:52 pm

I’m really looking forward to reading the last Alex Rider novel, like you Markos, I think it is the best series of books I have ever read.

I really enjoyed Crocodile Tears, and thought it was a lot bettter than all the other books, (I have read the whole series) even though I loved them to. I am glad to hear that Scorpia are back as “Scorpia” is one of my favourites. Although like Markos Skeleton Key is my favourite

  47. D-man August 17th, 2010 9:09 pm

dang so this is it so sad it is over

  48. Brandon August 17th, 2010 10:58 pm

I can’t wait to read Scorpia Rising! Your books are amazing! I love the Power of Five series. It’s amazing! You are an amazing writer Anthony. Keep it up. :D

    Thanks for the adventures! :D

  49. -- August 19th, 2010 8:45 am

I’m really looking forward to the final Alex Rider Book, but I’m looking forward to the fifth Power of Five book even more. PoF is Mr Horowitz’s magnum opus.

  50. Arya Svit-Kona August 20th, 2010 10:53 am

Okay, after reading what you said about Scorpia Rising, I’m terrified about the ending. I can’t help but think that either Alex will leave MI6 forever or he’ll… die. I don’t want either of those things to happen!

Anyway, I love your books! I am forever thankful to the friend who introduced me to Alex Rider and to you for writing them.

  51. James August 20th, 2010 5:30 pm

I cant wait for the 9th alex rider book, i love the whole series.and the power of five, cant wait for the fifth book,, these are the best books ever and anthony is the best author ever!! :)

  52. austin August 21st, 2010 5:00 pm

when i read that this was going to be the last book my heart sunk. i was in 5th grade when i first ordered the first 3 books in a box set. now im in 11th grade and it really sucks that its over. AR, you will be missed

  53. Thomas August 22nd, 2010 2:33 am

The following is mere speculation. No confirmed facts about it whatsoever. But I have a few possible spoilers to release and some thoughts that I want to hear you guy’s opinions about. First, as far as the “character that will die that has been in all eight books” goes, I think it’s Smithers. Think about it. In his spoiler post, Anthony Horowitz stated specifically that “You will come across the Smithers’s last gadget.” Last implies that there won’t be anymore gadgets from him and this bit of info added to the fact that a character who has been with the series since day 1 will die creates a strong case for the fact that Smithers might be about to crack his last joke some time soon. Also, In his latest post, A.H. said that the final chapter was called “Departures” and was very sad. I believe that, in this chapter, one of three things will happen: Alex will leave, Alex will die, or one of the core characters will leave or die (this could be the chapter in which the character from all eight books dies). All of these scenarios would be in line with the word ‘Departures’. Alex could leave to finally be with Sabina, leave to join with M16 permanently (which would have to be for some extremely good reason given Alex’s state of mind on the subject), or leave to go live somewhere else (perhaps to be done with M16, for the reason that Jack can’t stand living with him [the spoiler said that their relationship will change] and he doesn’t have any family in England, because Jack has to leave due to her visa having expired, or for his own safety and that of his friends [it wouldn't surprise me if he had to deal with assassins trying to kill him every DAY considering the amount of people that he has ticked off over the span of a year]. This chapter could be about Alex finally kicking the bucket and all of the characters paying their respects, but I somehow find that unlikely. A.H. has already proclaimed that he hates writing about the death of children. Which means that it is very likely that one of the other characters will leave or die. Jack could leave because her visa expires or she now hates Alex, Blunt could because he is fired, Mrs. Jones might leave because she can’t stand the treatment of Alex. There are really a million ways that this could go and I won’t go into them all. Just speculation.

  54. Thomas August 22nd, 2010 2:45 am

Me again. Just some spoilers to post from an interview that Anthony Horowitz was a part of. The spoilers deal with the final book in the Power of Five series. So, here goes. Horowitz stated that the fifth will indeed be the last, and that not all of the Gatekeepers will survive (hinting that at least one will die [though A.H. has already expressed that he hates writing about the death of children]). He has also stated that at least one of the five will betray the others and that the book will be split into five parts: earth, fire, air, water, and ice (which will be Antarctica, where the final battle will take place). A.H. is also going to try for a 200,000 word count.

  55. Arya Svit-Kona August 22nd, 2010 4:53 am

I really love your Alex Rider series and can’t wait until SCORPIA RISING comes out. To tell the truth, what you’ve said about the book so far terrifies me. I mean, the ending is shocking? Someone important will die? It will undoubtably be the last Alex Rider book ever? It makes me think that either Alex will leave MI6 forever or that he’ll die. It is more likely that Jack will die and her death will cause Alex to leave MI6 forever and I don’t want that to happen just like I don’t want Alex to die.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the book! It comes out two days before my sisters birthday.

  56. lucy August 23rd, 2010 7:10 am

Thanks so much for writen the alex rider books!!!
I hadent read anything for a couple of years:( But picking up your book has really want to again and in the space of a few weeks i read the whole lot!

ps i have a question for you:Is crocerdill tears a book to do with yassen or another of alex’s adventures???
    Thanks:)

  57. Bob August 25th, 2010 5:16 pm

Thanks soo much for writing the Alex Rider books. I love them so much. I saw them at a book fair in my school and i read the back of Crocodile Tears and I just knew I had to get it. I got a lend of Eagle Strike from a friend and i loved it. I got the rest of the series for my birthday and now have read them in order. I love the idea behind Point Blanc. I am really looking forward to Scorpia Rising but i dont want Jack or Smithers or Alex to die.

  58. Janelsa August 26th, 2010 5:13 am

    G’day Anthony,
just posting to say i believe that i am YOUR BIGGEST AUSTRALIAN FAN OF THE ALEX RIDER SERIES (… felt as if i needed to get that off my chest) oh and so is my 19 yr old sister. i love reading so i statred reading the series in 5th grade and i literally fell in love with sereies.Questions:
    1. is their going to be any more future movies based on the Alex Rider novels
    2. well now i know you are going to write another Alex Rider novel to add to the series so this question is irrelevant.
anywaays have a good day your West Australian Fan

    Janelsa (Jane)

Ps the Alex Rider series are WAYYYYYYYYY better than the Cherub, Secret Army and Twilight series combined

  59. Abby August 26th, 2010 4:35 pm

I hope you read my comment!!!
I believe I only started reading the Alex Rider books last year, in eighth grade. Instantly I fell IN LOVE with them! They are my kind of books–exciting, adventurous, and suspenseful–they just make you wanna keep reading! I will probably read this series over and over again–and that usually doesn’t happen much. I read books once and I’m done. But these books are the best I have ever read. And even though I am only going to be just starting Snakehead (just got done with Ark Angel–AMAZING! My friend said that was his favorite one.) I am so excited to hear there is in fact another book after Crocodile Tears, and yet so extremely sad that that one will be the last.
(I have two websites) I am a writer myself: I know what it’s like when people just want to keep reading more!!!
    -Abby

  60. retta August 29th, 2010 7:30 am

i ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE ALEX RIDER SERIES AND CAN’T BELIEVE ITS ENDING. i havent been reading them for long but u love them!!! when i first read that one of the characters from the other 8 books will die in scorpia rising i instantly thought of jack, hope i’m wrong. My theory is: jack will die because of something to do with MI6 which will cause alex to leave forever. then the final chapter departures will be at jack’s funeral? i really don’t want this to happen but it is just a theory. i don’t think A.H will kill off alex. maybe smithers (hope not) or alan blunt or mrs jones
CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL SCORPIA RISING IS RELEASED!!! <3

  61. the anomios writer August 29th, 2010 12:09 pm

  62. Bookworm August 30th, 2010 12:40 am

    Anthony Horowitz,

I wish you wouldn’t finish the Alex Rider series. I really love those books and will read them over and over for years to come. In Scorpia Rising, I beg that you don’t kill Alex off. I have become so attached to the character, I would probably cry if you were to do so. I was hoping you would write about Alex far into his actual legitimate recruiting into MI6, and his missions as he gets older older. You could have developed the series into novels with a “Bourne-like” caliber as he gets deeper and is more official into the spy world. You have already given him huge beneficial influence on multiple spy networks, and it could have opened up many possibilities. Knowing your style, however, I’m sure that the ending to the series will be just as gripping as ever. I can’t wait to find out what will happen, even though you claim it ends with a sad chapter.

You say that you are going to write stuff about Yassen that branch out from the Alex Rider series? Does this mean you will start a series in Yassen’s point of view on the missions that he did with Alex’s father in Scorpia? I think that will be an interesting series to say the least!

  63. Anaan September 3rd, 2010 5:31 am

I’m also sad r there all the books available for iPhone iBooks.

  64. Martin September 5th, 2010 6:36 pm

    Hello
I just cannot believe that you are going to end this series I for one have grown up. The first book stormbreaker I couldnt put down and ended up reading it in a day, which is a surprise even to myself!!
Everyone of the books I have been on the very edge of my seat!!
I and many others have agreed that you should not end the series.
I was reading through some comments and realised there may be another possible way to end this remarkable series. At the end of crocodile tears Blunt’s position was under scrutiny by the PM.
If so Blunt could be fired and Alex never used again. and the departure would be that of Blunt’s, or as someone else has stated the death of Alex’s closest friend Jack, causing Alex to leave MI6.
I believe that the surprise coming in a few years will be that of Alex when he’s older, he will be with a secret service or he may have even choose the path of his father!

Thank you for such a brilliant book series and hope all the best in the future !!
    - Martin

  65. kushla September 6th, 2010 9:38 am

i believe i began reading the series when i was what…10 and now i’m nearly finishing high school. I remember reading the entire series in 2 weeks and rereading them ever so often to wait for the next one. To have it come to an end is definitely sad.
Oh well, all good things come to an end and the series has to end somewhere T_T
well thank you Anthony Horowitz for forcing my nose into your books and actually making me enjoy them at the same time. It’s been a pleasure =) *wink*

  69. Madison September 11th, 2010 9:28 pm

OMG!!! The series is going to end i cant believe it!! Its going to be sad?? Hopefully Alex doesn’t die because that would be just tragic. I just finished reading Ark Angel. My second favorite.(after Scorpia)EEk!!! I’m so excited!!!

  70. big_fan September 19th, 2010 2:45 am

cant believe this is the last one. i read the first chapter and now i’m dying to read the whole book. really can’t wait for it. i really really really hope that you haven’t killed Alex. i started reading the series last year and had been hooked on ever since. AH, you are a genius
    plz answer these Qs
when is next POWER OF FIVE coming out and have u finished writing all the diamond brothers series.
    thnx in advance

  71. Shahab Akmal September 19th, 2010 8:18 am

the main thing is that anthony horowitz’s books are more than spectacular in my opinion either mr alan blunt or edward pleasure will die …. either alex will stick to m16 or he will permamanantly be there; the chapters name is departureS ( focus on s) so about two or three departures will ttake place. secondly i am very soory for alex if he dies and i love ur books anthiny so plz keep writing themmmm i will cry if the sereis end.:(

  72. Ashlea September 19th, 2010 11:20 pm

Seriously when is the new power of five or I’m intrigued to read what happen. Personally its the best series I’ve read in a long time and trust me I read a lot of books so please don’t leave us in suspense and give us a clue when it will be released. Thanks

  74. andrew September 21st, 2010 4:42 pm

i am so sad to see the alex rider series is coming to an end it gave me an insight to do good spy stories.Cant wait till yassen and scorpia rising WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT ITS THE THE LAST TWO STORIES OF THE SERIES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU ANTHONY FOR PUTTING YOUR TIME AND EFFORT INTO
    YOUR BOOKS

  75. Ms. Yingling September 29th, 2010 10:51 am

We will all be sad to see Alex’s story end, but the upside is that there might be a NEW series that is even better. My library is up to TEN copies of Stormbreaker, Mr. Horowitz, and none of them are currently on the shelf!

  76. Mark Forshaw October 2nd, 2010 10:12 am

    Anthony,
I am a HUGE fan of your books. I have read every single one. At school, I had to do a biography about anyone, so I chose you. Can I ask you a question?
I knew you would say yes.
What is the name of your chocolate labradour and what are the other names that you say he is in every book?

  77. Mark Forshaw October 2nd, 2010 10:13 am

Come on. It won’t take you that long.

  78. Elise Collins October 2nd, 2010 5:14 pm

    please don’t kill alex!!!
I really want more alex rider books
    I luv them soooooo much
But thank you to anthony for writing them because my life wouldn’t be the same without them

  79. Dani October 4th, 2010 7:20 pm

Death isn’t the only way to make a story sad. Look at Doctor who. However, it is effective and probably a character will die, but we’re expecting it so I doubt it will be the death of Alex.

  80. Dani October 4th, 2010 7:24 pm

Of course, there is every possibility tat it will flash forward into the future, and show Alex having a happy life, an him dying happily. I honestly don’t think he will die on a mission. Too obvious, and I don’ think Anthony would do that.

  81. Ara October 5th, 2010 6:23 am

Oh god, it’s finally coming to an end… that kinda makes me wanna cry. I’ve read these books since I was in middle school (and that’s saying something, I’m a freshman in college). Your books are so gripping, and I’ve read each one over and over again.

I suppose you’ve already written the book, but I really wish K-Unit could be in it, even just a snippet of Ben or Wolf and what the Unit’s up to. That would give me some nice closure :) Haha, I think I’ve read too much fanfiction not to have them around. I’ve always wondered that too, do read the stories on FF?

Thank you for the years of entertainment, Anthony

    -Ara

  82. Nick October 7th, 2010 12:15 am

    Aw…
I’ve been reading these since I was in the fourth grade, and now I’ve gotten my little brother hooked on them. My only predictions is that someone important will die. Shot, stabbed, poisoned, who knows what. Anyways, thanks for some great years Anthony.
    -Nick

  83. Hannah October 8th, 2010 8:45 pm

Gonna miss books! Love power of five though, when is next book? :)

  84. Rubi October 9th, 2010 3:09 am

I can’t believe it’s over!!! I mean, I’ve been awaiting for this…but at the same time I never want it to end! I hope by sad, you don’t mean he, Jack, or Sabina is going to die! Please don’t! That would be so tragic, he’s been through enough already! I couldn’t stand it and enough authors have ruined several series for me with the tragic endings. Can’t he just be happy?! LOL sorry, here I am writing as if he were real, but through your stories I have felt like I’ve been a part of his world. It’s been a great couple years, thanks for the adventures. I could never put your books down! I hope to one day write something that will impact a kid the way your books did for my sister and me. I can’t wait! And I’ll be looking forward to the book about Yassen as well! :D

  85. Steph October 10th, 2010 8:09 am

All series come to a close eventually (weather we like it or not) but it’s the waiting that KILLS me. I loved your Alex Rider series from the first page but afterwards I discovered Raven Gate and fell in love with it. I’m DYING for the fifth book and I really hope that you’re a fast typer.
    From a loyal fan- Steph

  86. Hero October 14th, 2010 8:14 pm

I can’t wait to read Scorpia Rising! Yet I don’t want it to come out because let’s face it, Alex’s adventures have to end at one point. Even if the stories are timeless ;)

    Keep on writing!

  87. Alice October 16th, 2010 10:45 am

I will never ever forget myself holding my first Alex Rider novel 2 years ago. 8 action-packed missions written perfectly in 10 years, that’s pretty amazing! But I still feel depressed knowing that all this is going to end next year. 9 missions, 11 years…… I’ll burn the midnight oil to finish Scorpia Rising.

Thanks for all the novels you’ve written, Mr. Anthony. Somehow I think it’s impossible to live without your books. :-)

  88. Ryan Tabone October 18th, 2010 4:27 pm

    Hi Horowitz,

I really love reading your books most of all the books of the alex rider series. When i read them i feel i am in them and seeing it all happen infront of my own eyes . But now i am so sad that the books are coming to an end . But i want to thank you for all the time i have spent reading these books and loving all the story. Thx Horowitz

  89. Zach October 19th, 2010 1:53 am

    Hi Anthony
I LOVE THE ALEX RIDER BOOKS!!!
    please please don’t kill him!
    i just have 3 question’s:
why did you decide to stop the alex rider series after this book??
    also
Does MI6 assign alex a mission in this book, or does alex just get curios??
    finally
If you decide to kill alex rider in this book would MI6 decide to use another 14 year old boy as a spy again??

    please reply
    I LOVE ALEX RIDER BOOKS!
the first chapter of SCORPIA RISING is incredible

    OH MAN…….

WHY?? WHY?? dang those books are good!! I read them in 7th grade in one of my class and i got hooked(big time). I cant stop reading them over and over!!!!!! :) I think I have read almost every book you wrote ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  93. Melissa October 28th, 2010 7:41 pm

    hi Anthony,
in the last chapter in crocodile tears (an afternnon with anthony horowitz- what happens next) you said that alex will most certainly not die in any of you’re books, but i am really confused – beacuse all my friends are saying that alex is going to die in this book, because it is the last alex rider book in the series. But I really hope that he does not die, i LOVE the alex rider books and have just finished crocodile tears (by the way it was amazing!!)
I just hope that he does not die, either quite MI6 forever, or allan blunt dies, so he cant assign anymore missions- but i doubt that because then their is Mrs.Jones, anyways. I think (or hope) that alex rider might end up like crawley- or better beacuse Mr crawley worked for MI6 but got injured in a mission, maybe that can happen to alex I REALLY HOPE SO becauase i know the alex rider series are going to end, i just dont want them to end, like that because he was killed or assinated. well its not up to me, but either way i love the alex rider books, they are really good, and the only books that i find interessting, and make me want to sit down and read, they are really descriptive, and i think i learnet some new works.
    You are a GREAT author
    please dont kill alex

    -MELISSA-

  94. saurabh October 29th, 2010 6:35 am

  96. Elise Collins October 31st, 2010 6:42 pm

Alex rider means the world to me. The books and graphic novels mean so mch to me. I would like to know if you are going to do a series about alex only when hes older say 20?21 It think it would be interesting

  97. zackerie johnson November 7th, 2010 6:07 am

i havnt read very much of ur books but i have to say that you are the best author ive read books by and think that you need to make like three more series of books. ive read three of the gate keper books and couldnt put them, down usually books bore me to death but i could not set the books down and im most likely reading the alex rider series after i finish the fourth gate keepers book [if i can ever find it lol!]

  98. Matt November 9th, 2010 1:29 am

    MR. Horowitz,
Your books are amazing! Especially the suspenseful Scorpia! But its killing me when the next book is going to come out cause i’m yearning to read it. I heard that you said that some of the story takes place in Egypt… thats awesome! Anyway if you have time in your engrossed schedule please contact me if you know when the next book or movie is coming out. In case you didn’t get my email its:matthoops555@aol.com.

    Thanks a lot,
    Matt:)

  99. Jake November 10th, 2010 9:31 pm

WHEN IS HE GOING TO WRITE NEXT POWER OF FIVE

  100. Bec November 11th, 2010 7:14 am

i havn’t been reading the alex rider series for long i watched the movies first and found out there was a book about it many years later.
i didn’t know there was a series for ages but i still LOVE THE ALEX SERIES!!! i’m only 12 and i started reading them when i was like 9 so yeah not long.
i cant believe the series is finishing!!!!!!!! i luuvvv them ssooo much you’re a very talented writer Anthony and i cant wait for ‘Scorpia Rising’ to come out. and i cant believe someone who’s been in all the books will die :( still yeahh

  101. Bec November 11th, 2010 7:18 am

by the way i liked how in ‘Snakehead’ you came to Australia. I’m from Australia and i’ve been to Sydney and i liked how i could i suppose relate to him at that point.
i like how you are very descriptive in your writing and you make it so people can relate to your characters so i hope ‘Scorpia Rising’ will be just as good as the others-which i’m sure it will

  102. Luxia November 11th, 2010 9:31 pm

I REALLY REALLY enjoy the series. I wish they could go on forever. But, all good things must come to an end…
I am so excited for the book about Yassen (you said something about a couple of years, i will still read it if it doesnt come out until im 712 years old). Yassen is probably my favorite character. Although I do LOVE Alex Rider. I cried when Yassen died. I cannot wait until Scorpia Rising comes out! I hope Yassen comes back to life! Its not a realistic dream, but its a dream all the same.

    Luxia Out! :)

  103. Hümeyra November 13th, 2010 11:04 pm

  107. Rayne December 1st, 2010 1:56 am

    Dear Anthony Horowitz,
I can’t believe the Alex Rider books are ending I love spy books and found Alex Rider series to be the best.
They are truley amazing peices of writting, I look forward to reading Scorpia Rising.
I grew up with the Alex Rider books as many others have.

Your an amazing writer and i look forward to all your other books too. :)

  108. james December 30th, 2010 12:33 pm

what i will always miss abour the alex rider series is your style of writing. the best way to describe your style would be… raw… like extreme and sharp. whilst we get the idea, there is some stubornness about it all. anyway, anthony, i’m a true fan and i know you wrote it for us… intensely awaiting SCORPIA RISING and hope all goes well with you.

head of the unofficial alex rider legionnaire, james

  109. John January 11th, 2011 2:59 am

what can i say I love spy books James Bond and Alex Rider are my favorites I mean its a great escape from reality to go get in a hot bath and read 9 or 10 chapters of an Alex Rider book I remember when in 7th grade I would get bored in class and pull out stormbreaker and just read it under the desk dude thanks for some amazing stories with a great protagonist like Alex
