TO LIIIIVE IS TO FLYYY

« on: May 20, 2012, 11:22:36 AM »

Hehe. Here is the topic then.

>.> Totally somewhat addicted to Fanfiction, but it's so annoying to peruse through like, 8 pages, to find a single all right fic. And about a hundred to get a good one. BUT IT'S REALLY FUN.

Never heard of, may check out. Best Harry Potter actual fic writer in my opinion is Anna Fugazzi, though.

Hold on, is Draco Dormeins the alias Cassy Clare used?

EDIT: Okay, so it's pretty famous :L but it angers me that it's now not available to read over the internet... which is fair for it to annoy me, right?

Have you guys read Leathal Secrets by TheUlmuri? It's probably my favourite Alex Rider fic on FFN. Set when he's 17 and a full fledged member of MI6, it's a pretty good read.

I've not read much Alex Rider recently. I go through phases of which Fanfiction I read :L But I may give it a read. But you must have read what Amitai's written? She may not update all that much, but she's the biggest Alex Rider fanfic influence I've seen... http://www.fanfiction.net/u/887638/amitai

(Oh no, this thread will get me reading FF more than other reading, more than revising, more than writing, more than saxophone...)

Oh yeah, Amitai's probably the most well known multi-fic Alex Rider writer, at least to the fandom. Always loved her works, especially In Loco Parentis.

OH. Have you read What Would Slytherin Harry Do? by Big D on a Diet? It's a collection of one-shot chapters, all from the same universe, though not necessarily in the correct order time-line wise. It pretty much tries to answer the titular question in amusing but plausible ways.

Bump.

Felt the need to share a pretty damn good Harry Potter/Avengers fic I've been following. It's called Wand and Shield, and it's by Morta's Priest. Harry ends up in the Avengers universe through a mechanic that is hinted to be related to being Master of Death, but isn't elaborated on. He realises there is no magic in this universe, and therefore there are no magical laws. Thus he starts breaking the Statute of Secrecy in order to get through customs without a passport.

His apparation gets picked up by SHIELD surveillance, and they send Black Widow to find out who he is. Then shenanigans ensue.

It's 6 chapters in so far, with a very good update rate, and Tony has turned up in the storyline now too.

Everyone go read it.

Just for the record...

I don't know how much you lot read FF, but fanfiction.net rules my life right now.. but as they're starting to get a bit like OH MY GOD YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT ON YOUR THING, quite a few writers are moving stories to yourfanfiction.com. Wondering if anyone's getting to know that site at all? it seems quite nice - like, totally writer controlled - so much fewer members that it's more personal right now?

Anyway, just thought I'd point it out.

I don't normally read any fanfiction. Reading that intensely off a screen hurts my brain. But I like a good story, so I'm giving this one a shot!

I already hang out a lot on PatronusCharm.net, which is the fanfic archive created by the admins over on the Dark Lord Potter forums. They call themselves the last bastion of quality Harry Potter fanfiction, and the name suits. It's unusual to find a badly written story there.

YourFanFiction.com sounds interesting, I'll have to go check it out. There's also AO3 (Archive Of Our Own), which while still in beta, is shaping up to be a pretty good archive. Because it's in beta, you need a key from another author there before you can create an account though. Also worth a look is FanFicAuthors.net. A bunch of authors got annoyed with FFN a few years ago, so they banded together and created their own website in which to post their stories. They don't admit new authors, but there are some pretty good fics over there.

Then of course there's Twisting the Hellmouth, which is dedicated to Buffy the Vampire Slayer stories and crossovers, if anyone's interested in that.

As a general rule, I never really read Fanfiction. It's not so much that I object to the concept - I actually think Fanfiction's an awesome concept, especially for the author, it must be nice - but I've always really really hated it. It's mostly because of all the crappy, crappy stories you have to dredge through to reach one good one, and even then there's always one small fact wrong, or one phrase or wording that seems so OOC, that I just can't handle it.

So yeah. Fanfiction usually annoys me. Except for parodies, though. I enjoy parodies because they don't claim to be more than they are, and they don't take themselves seriously.

I haven't really gotten stuck into fanfic that much - apart from what you guys have recommended, which so far has been good... I suppose I should give it an explore some time when I have the chance  smiley

want me to recommend something? This. --> http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8164821/1/Potters_Weasleys_and_Misguided_Snogging
So it's about the next gen of Harry Potter, features James and Albus Potter; Fred, Molly and Rose Weasley; Scorpius Malfoy; and some really well done OCs. There are other characters in it, like Lily and Roxanne, but they're not the main feature. AND IT'S SO GOOD. And the writer of it updates it so regularly. I seriously love her.

And there's so much to it. 19 chapters in, at 89,000 words, we're still in October in the school year. GAAH I CAN'T RAVE ABOUT THIS ENOUGH. SHE'S EVEN GOT A TUMBLR PAGE ABOUT IT. http://thethirdpottergeneration.tumblr.com/

Quote
James closed his eyes and made a patronizing face. 'It's not a "what"; it's a "who". You, to be precise. You're Peps.'

'Why's that?'

'Because you've got dark hair. Like pepper?pepper's dark.' Since Albus didn't make any sign of a response, James looked sidelong at him. Seeing that he couldn't have understood, James sighed. 'It could be worse, you know. Because if you've got Peps, Rocky's not too far away.'

Albus's eyebrows shot up. 'Rocky? Who's that, then? And why "Rocky"?'

'Well, salt and pepper. Rock salt, to be precise. Al, you're meant to be smart?think. Whose hair is the opposite of yours?'

and
Quote
For James Potter, it began with a conversation.

For Cordelia Gilbert, it began with a Quidditch game.

For Rose Weasley, it began in an alley.

For Scorpius Malfoy, it began at a party.

For Patricia Day, the party sufficed as the beginning, too.

For Barbara Tennant, it began with a hat.

For Fred Weasley, it began on a train.

But we'll get to that much, much later.

Ahhh see I could never get into the whole next gen HP stuff. They're basically OC's with canon names running around doing stuff I don't care about.

Frankly I'd rather read about Harry than his kids, who were only shown in the epilogue that I prefer to pretend doesn't exist.
