Everyone loved the books, but you have to admit, there were some minor flaws in it.

I thought that how Anthony Horowitz "killed" so many people (AR's dad+mom, Ash, Yassen, Jack, Ian Rider and villans) was a bit weird. Just because he can make people die, it doesn't mean they have to.

It was necessary. All good authors agree on one thing; The main character, in the end, has to go it alone. No help. That can't be achieved unless all parental/authority figures in that persons life are in one way or another, out of the way. Same thing happened with Harry Potter. Only difference being he had one parental figure left in his life (Hagrid) by the end.

If any of those people you mentioned (other than perhaps ASH, depending on how sorry you think he was) would have helped Alex and wouldn't let him go it alone had they been kept alive.

As for the villains, it was rather kill them or have them arrested, not really any other way to do it besides that.

I didn't like how AR was always acting the martyred hero - I never wanted all this to happen, stop asking me to save the world, etc, etc.
It's the same I suppose with Harry Potter - especially in the movies, Harry was unsufferable!

Agreed, bwahaha. I have thought about something Stephanie Meyers said something about how killing characters, even small ones, left the reader wondering what the character could have been. And I have to say that there were a lot of people who died in the series.

I think Anthony should have killed Sabina, not Jack. Alex could get over Sabina but I think it would be worse to lose someone who was like a mother to him.

In this case, I wanted a fairytale ending.  Jack adopting Alex.
Alex should have told sabina how it is.
I would rather have jack's and ian's dead carcasses than live with you. You can do nothing for me.

Yassen: Where's Cray?
Alex: He went off his trolley.
Yassen: He's dead?
Alex: Very.

Yassen: You should forget about me.
Alex: I'll never forget you.

Yassen: Oh, kiss me you fool!

It would be cool if Jack married someone and adopted Alex

The only thing I don't like is taht Anthony writes these things, the short stories and then has nothing to do iwth getitng them to us...to this day it's been a hardship fniding all the lost stories and one, A TASTE OF DEATH, eludes me to this day. I think it's most unkind of the writer to seem totally unphazed by this and by the company who publishes the Alex Rider material, to do this to the readers. I think it stinks

The rest of you might not agree with this but have you noticed that Alex has never failed a mission. Perhaps he should fail one or refuse to do the mission and then see the consequences of his actions. Just a suggestion of angsty Alex.

I'm sorry, but personally judging from the tone of some of your posts regarding the short stories, I think you are being a bit harsh on him. The fact that je has gone to the effort of writing them shows that he is not indifferent to his readers - I am sure he didn't just write them to taunt readers as you seem to think he does. It is good that you are so enthusiastic to read the short tories, as I am sure that most of us are - just try to be a bit more lenient/understanding to Anthony. All I am trying to say is that it's a bit strong to get so personally affronted by the fact you can't find the short stories... Part of the fun is finding them, if you ask me...

But yes. Sorry if I came across as being angry (I'm not) or a bit hard on you, but I'm just trying to make you realise that it's not some personal grudge or indifference from Horowitz towards his readers not to find the short stories - after all the readers are the reason he goes to the trouble of writing the extra stories!

Ok enough of my lecturing... I don't mean to sound mean - cos really I'm not  smiley

The basic point is this;

Anthony probably doesn't have much of a say in what gets published where. In fact, even with publishers it's hard. Different countries have different publishers distributing the stories, therefore it's doubtful they're doing it to be painful.
