Artemis fowl is another book which i found i loved ...though it wasn't that similar to Alex rider plot wise

if you want something similar plot wise I'd say read Alpha Force by Chris Ryan .. its a really great set of books with a very similar storyline

Hmmmmm...Well nothing quite lives up to Alex Rider but I would suggest,
  • The Maximum Ride series
  • Harry Potter
  • Percy Jackson Series

It's okay to reiterate a point. It just shows how popular that series is (: I quite like Artemis Fowl myself. At least, I used to more when I was younger.

CHERUB is also along the same vein as the AR series (teenage spies, etc).

Definitely recommend the Percy Jackson series (Percy's awesome!), and Harry Potter goes without saying (there are still people that haven't read it?!).

Books by Rick Riordan are really good

Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus -> Roman/Greek Mythology
Kane Chronicles -> Egyptian Mythology

(they help with history lessons too: BONUS)

Also the Lorien nine series (I am Number Four) are like alex rider (and not just because of Alex Pettyfer!) series, but more of fantasy action

I'm British (oh, hush about the weather. I love it. My room is thirteen degrees at the moment. It's been colder recently.) and I really enjoy Uglies.

And whilst CHERUB has older themes, Alex Rider is written so much more maturely and to me appears much older to CHERUB.

No one seems to know these, but the Mortal Engines books by Philip Reeve are great, and City of the Beasts, Kingdom of the Golden Dragon and Forest of the Pygmies by Isabel Allende are other great reads.

And Wind on Fire, by William Nicholson. And Noble Warriors trilogy, same author.

I'd definitely agree with that.

Also a really, really good book sorta like AR, is Sleeper Code by Tom Sniegoski (also Sleeper Agenda the second part).  I almost liked it better than AR (don't get mad yet, I said almost.) grin

oh man I love Uglies.  It's perhaps the second best series I have ever read. I think my favorite series' goes like this
1) Alex Rider
2) Maximum Ride or Uglies
3) Percy Jackson
4) Heroes of Olympus, but this kind of ties with Percy Jackson, and they're related
5) Has anybody read A Wrinkle in Time??
