Do you guys think what Blunt did was morally right (the shooting at Alex)? He saved the marbles, but what about Jack?

Blunt said in the end that it was a mistake. He didn't care about the Elgin Marbles, he just believed Scorpia had a plot involving the school in Cairo. He wouldn't have arranged the shooting if he knew it was all just for the Elgin Marbles. But either way, it can't be justified.

I thought he was cool i never really liked Mrs. Jones so when she got his job i was kind of mad. i thought he was the only man for the job.. ya know? he did some messed up stuff but he was the head from the beginning so it seems like its just his job.

It was his job but...even the intelligence agencies have to obey laws. For the most part anyway. And arranging a school shooting for any reason, even to save the lives of millions of other people, is definetely a no-no. But you can't argue he was certainly effective. Just succeeded in all the wrong ways.

In this book, I think AH sort of vilified Mrs. Jones. He really seemed to want us to look at Alan Blunt as the better agent.

Blunt as the better agent, but certainly not as the better person. He showed Mrs Jones better side here. I doubt she'll be as effective as he was but she'll be much more fair and do things legally...

Who would I be... If I'd never met Alex Rider?

« Reply #7 on: April 02, 2011, 05:43:21 PM »

When there was this talk about Blunt in a new light I thought it would mean he was going to start being nice. But he was just even more horrible. I mean, looked at the way he didn't really think that Jack dying was important! What a CREEP!

I know! But he actually said that her dying was worth it if Scorpia was finished. That's how he put it.

That is just EVIL. I like Mrs.Jones being the new head; she's more humane.

Not really. What he did at the school was evil. But I agree that one life to save many is definetely worth it.

But it was so MEAN! I think he should totally have FORBIDDEN Jack to go on a mission!

That was her choice though. And she wasn't really going on the mission, just going to stay in Cairo. She also chose herself to get involved in the actual mission.

What? No...she helped Alex follow Erik Gunter and all that stuff long before she was kidnapped. And that was part of the mission too.
