I agree with the statement, my dear Pedro. It's quite ridiculous. Yeah, sure, they can probably (should probably) earn enough not to need another job, enough to live quite comfortably. But not the amount many footballers get paid. And I don't think other sportspeople (or indeed, sportswomen) are paid nearly as much as footballing males are, which is awfully unfair.

(although I do suppose men are better at playing with balls. Cheesy)

So you agree that male footballers (with balls  cheesy ) are paid too much, but many female athletes who probably train harder (triathletes, sprinters, swimmers) are not paid enough...

fair call there me thinks...

Not simply female athletes, but any female sports player, including female footballers. And indeed male non footballers. It's pretty much footballers who get paid ridiculous amounts, right?

And Tiger Woods.

Basically, it is a small proportion of people right at the top of their sport...and only some sports mind you. Athletics is a sport where no one gets paid heaps...

Yes, but only F1 drivers. The less popular events (F4...) are not taken up by the media, and so the drivers are not loaded, they do it for passion.

I think the amount of money for sport is unfair. Some people totally work their butts off to be smart and stuff.

And lots of people actually need the money. They could take a percentage of money made in sports games and give it to people who need it - secure safe drinking water and actual food for people who really need it. Ridiculous.

A smiley counts as a sentence!  wink

Moving forward (please say so if you either a) laughed b) cried and contemplated killing be because you hate that phrase or c) have no idea why the hell these brackets are here) from our previous topic, I have an important debate.

In this strange and wonderful world of the Anthony Horowitz Message board, is post count a form of 'cred'? I am not asking if it is the only way we value each other, but is it one of the ways we do, and more importantly, SHOULD this be so?

Well, I like watching everyone go up in the postcount positions, gaining new titles as they post more. And I enjoy achieving those positions for myself, too. But I don't really take it into account? I mean, I don't really see it as anything more than a mildly amusing addition to the forum.

That said, I do very much look forward to being a Gatekeeper and having my name listed on the first page.

And no, my dear, smilies do not count as sentences.

I will pick (B) peds and threaten to stab you through the eye if you use it again.

I think that they do in a way. Of course, I would say that since I'm one of the top ten posters. Even if they're mostly nonsense. It isn't the only way we value each other of course. We love new posters and encourage them to stay and grow but I think in the beginning the post count does matter. I mean when you first see someone's post you look at their name, avatar and post count.

Well, I'd love to be one of the top ten... and I do believe Peds and KR are my main competitors. (By a few hundred posts)
And it is slightly prideful... I'm proud of being number twelve...

Urgh, I'm off by like a thousand. I will catch up though! And I am one of the top topic starters...

I think post count is quite important to newbies, because it gives them an idea of who are the 'older ones' around here, though obviously it's not always an accurate representation... For example, when I forst joined, meggy had like 2000 posts and I thought she was a proper oldie, but she had joined a month before me. (Also, 2000 posts in a month?!?! That's crazy!!!)

I don't think it is that important to us though, because we know each other quite well (except Pedro, because he's the sixty year old granny.) I do also think that it's a motivation to post more too because we like getting higher and and higher in rank.

That reminds me, my current posting is like 2.509 per day, I must increase that. I should start posting in the AR and PO5 sections again, I avoided GD when I first got here for like a couple of days, but now I spend all my time here.
