I have read all four Gatekeeper books (Necropolis is the best one I think), but thinking about the Old Ones in general
and all of the times they have actually appeared.   Are they really all that powerful, seriously?

I can understand why they hardly ever appear, after all they are sealed (they have not appeared enough).

But reading all the paragraphs they make appearances they just seem a tad week for Hell-like beings. They were beaten quite easily in the past and when Matt faced Chaos in Evil Star he forced him to retreat quite quickly. For the so-called 'King of the Old Ones' he doesn't really pack much of a punch does he?

I want to read the Five having a hellatious difficult battle, not some giant weeking that retreated against 1/5 Gatekeepers. Imagine if all Five of them were in Evil Star, Chaos would have retreated in half the time, or maybe a quarter!

I personally think the 'Five' need more of a challenge.  I mean if I had to IMAGINE a tougher fictional opponent for the 'Five' I would say the 'One Winged Angel' Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.  Son of a Alien planet destroyer, 7-FOOT Masamune sword which can cut through anything (cutting buildings in half), teleportation, telekinesis, unparalleled fighting ability, high jumps, running up walls, flight, powerful magical attacks and finally SuperNova.  GOOD BYE OLD ONES LOL!

If anyone here can think of any other fictional villians (games, movies or books) that would give the 'Five' a tougher challenge then feel free to name someone.

ALSO if anyone here thinks I'm wrong and the Old One are powerful, then I would love to know why?

The old ones are incredibly powerful, just not towards the 5, because they are powerful too, and together they are able to defeat then...and you need to remember that AH did not have that long in Evil Star to describe the battle...I imagine it will be much harder in the 5th book...

the old ones are powerful, and they are more powerful when rich power hungry  megalomaniacs decide to be their servants.

I recall AH, saying something like they retreated as they had already been (mortally?) wounded. And they wanted to attack when they were at full power or something

The five when they are together are supposed to be able to defeat chaos. If the five were not together then chaos would win. Unless they were just defeating minions of course.
