*SPOILER*
Alex has been through heaps in his life because of MI6. Both of his parents died, his godfather died, his uncle died, his best friend/housekeeper died, his school friend (Tom) gets shot, and he himself gets shot.
He risked so much and lost so much by agreeing to spy for MI6 ever since Stormbreaker.
And yet he hardly ever cries?? So unrealistic
For the record i read heaps as her...nvmind

That's what made it so tragic. Jack was Alex's only real family for so long. It was perfect torture, and brilliant for AH to think of it. I mean really I never saw it coming because I never thought AH would ever write in something so tragic. The thing is, AH was able to write in perfect mental torture (keeping it interesting for older readers), without being to gruesome and over the top. Very good in my opinion.

Not that this has much to do with torture, but I don't think the ending did full justice to AH's talent - I think the series could have been ended in a better way, to me, it just didn't do it for me.

The effects of the torture:
Alex only cries once and then is very quiet and broken. Edward sees him and already thinks Alex is going to recover.
I mean, come on! It would have more effect than that! Grown men cry and get very upset when someone dies! Alex is just a kid!

Being 'broken' is pretty severe mental trauma, if you ask me - he was beyond crying, just empty *shudders*.

True and no matter Edwards opinion I really don't think Alex will be normal ever again. I find it kind of ironic that through the whole series Alex just wants to be a normal teenager, and both MI6 and Scorpia take that possibility away from him. I mean MI6 pulling him out of school every couple of weeks, and Scorpia taking away basically his whole family, with the exception of Ian because that wasn't Scorpia. What I've been trying to convey, is that no matter what Alex's new life will be like, he'll still have the emotional as well a physical scars to remind him of all that he's been through. Do any of you honestly think that after all that Alex can ever go back to being a normal teenager??? I know I sure couldn't. Alex will probably go on to work for the CIA or MI6 again. Of course once he's older, but he's already had so many successful missions, his reputation will proceed him. Kinda like Harry Potter only Alex knows all the stuff he's done.

Scorpia, in the technical sense, did take away Ian. Yassen killed him, and Yassen was employed through Scorpia, by Sayle.

So true. No matter what, Alex wont be able to stay out of trouble. If he sees a shopkeeper at gunpoint or something, he just wont be able to stand aside and let the police take care of it. Thats the way he is.

Yeah, Alex has this knack of getting into trouble, both by his own will and unwillingly
The waterboard torture was smart, but it looked like it was just crammed in at the last minute! Like the CIA would acttually waterboard a 15 year old without getting further information first!!

I do admit the waterboarding did seem to be a bit of a last minute addition. Although I am happy that AH put some typical, known torture in there. It really is hard to come up with torture and adrenaline scenes, so it was kind of expected that AH would put in something we all know about. And maybe he added it cause a while ago it seemed like all this topic talked about. Never do know.

I think the waterboarding was good. It showed Lewinsky would do anything to help protect his country.
