The sequels hardly ever beat the originals.

Who would I be... If I'd never met Alex Rider?

I've rented Chronicle even though I've already seen it in the cinema! I LOVE that movie!

Aliens, Xmen 2, Spiderman 2, The Dark Knight. All sequels accepted as being superior to the original.

They also go against the general rule. Every rule has exceptions, and those are a few of the notable ones.

You forgot Iron Man 2 gypolord I agree with Schadenfreude though, most sequels aren't as good as the original film but that seems to be changing in recent years. Film-makers seem to be understanding the idea that the sincerity in the first film needs to be conserved for the franchise to be established.

Ohh, I actually preferred Iron Man to Iron Man 2! Funny isn't it, that book sequels (or seconds in the series) tend to be better than the first.

I can respect that. I imagine book sequels have to better, because they need to keep the sense of continuity. I imagine the author is also pressurised to make the second book better, in a sense of loyalty to the fans.

Also Avengers since it's really a sequel to all those movies. Superhero movies have an advantage though. They spend the first movie on origins and then become more interesting in the second. Although I think I also preferred Iron to Iron Man 2.

Avengers is a fine example, although it's not technically a sequel. I look at it as more of a stand-alone film with characters from those other films. Changing the topic of conversation here slightly; what are your views on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot by Michael Bay??

Well the whole "make them aliens" thing confused me. Purely because that would make three of the words in the title wrong. I mean they're really not mutants, ninjas, or turtles if they're aliens.

It's a Michael Bay film. Don't expect it to make sense.

OUCH. So=core one for Dilan. Not that you're wrong. You're not wrong. The Transformer's movies were an abomination. I can't believe I actually paid money to see them. .. $36 gone for ever. . .

I didn't mind the first one. But then I liked the fight scenes, and Megan Fox is fabulous eye-candy. That mostly made up for the down sides...

To be fair the eye candy that opened Transformers 3 was totally worth it too.

Yes For me, it was Le Bouf. And Duhamel. Isn't that why we all saw those movies? Eye candy. Also, saw Prometheus today. Rapace and Fassbender were brilliant in their characters, but I felt the plot could have done with a boost.
