Nick sort of explains it in the 5th book. I think you have a choice when you die on whether you can come back or "go on"... but very few wizards choose it. Of course, I'm imagining a forked path one with a sign saying "This way if you want to be a ghost" and the other "This way if you wanna join the majority".... THAT COULD BE A TRAP! Death is confusing xD

Yeah I think it is basically those who wern't ready to die stay as ghosts because they can not let go.. I wonder if a ghost can move on? How would they do that? If Nick decided he did not want to be a ghost anymore and he was ready to leave the earth would he just.... dissapear? And I wonder if it is the same for muggles, I think what Madanlupin said was all nick said....
It seems that even faced with death some can be selfish. Harry is a decendent of the third brother isnt he? That trait must of been passed down lol

That is so weird. I was thinking the same thing of yours!! I love that sign. even better than the one on the side of the road saying "road ahead"
Is the last book still being made into two movies?
Has anyone noticed that apparently Aus is getting the DVD ages before anyone else? My friend showed me. I sat there for ages trying to work it out. Missed half my lecture. But it is really strange.

BOT... I dont think a ghost can mmove on. That's the impression you get from Nick anyway - that he's had quite enough, to be honest, but he's stuck with it, so making the best of things.
I love the scene where Ron's stuffing his face and keeps insulting Nick by being generally obtuse and undiplomatic - "Node iddum eentup sechew" indeed! heh heh

Translation: I didn't mean to upset you.
(I think)
I love it when Ron shoves his mouth full of food. He's such a hungry boy... but lack of food makes him grumpy. Silly boy.

Yeah, it's "No (I) didn't mean t(o) upset you" - as it would sound with the speaker's mouth full. 'No-didu-meen-t-upsech-ew.' Ish. XD
He says something else first - something about the sorting hat, from memory... 'how's it know it's in danger if it's a hat?' or something - and he swallows and repeats it so you understand that one - but I could never translate this sentence! - until one time I was rereading the series and hit that line and thought "I've read these books
so many times,
I should know this!!" So I sat there and stammered and spluttered and bit my tongue trying various pronunciations, until I figured it out XD
Then I just felt kinda silly.
