I'll admit it wasn't epic, but it was ... touching. Meh.

I would've read them, for sure.

I would still have read them, but I didn't enjoy them as much as I thought I would.

Yeah...I think the ending was good...apart from a) not having enough stuff to back up (in the earlier parts of the book) killing Coin and b) FINNICK!!!

Damn. I went and reread this series like an idiot. I can't believe I cried reading Mockingjay the second time. I'm not usually a teary reader, but I blubbered pathetically even though I knew what was coming. This is so awful.

Yeah. Finnick. Seriously. Finnick. I got a lump in my throat starting him, and by the time SPOILER Prim died I was in tears ... and after that, when Katniss goes all weird I was beyond speech. PLUS PEETA! AND GALE! AND PEETA! AND HER STYLISTS, WHO MADE ME CRY AGAIN! AND PRIM! AND THE DAMN CAT!

T_T

I hate this book for being so wonderfully annoyingly capable of getting under my skin.

Here's what I think (I wrote this somewhere else, but it sums up what I think so well that...):

Oh and SPOILERS for Mockingjay

I hated Mockingjay. Like hated it. Not because it wasn't brilliantly written or gripping- because it was. I finished it within 6 hours. No, I just hated hated hated it.

I know some people are going to say it's realistic, it's better than a fairytale ending, whatever. I thought Gale became too horrible. Peeta was good, as usual, but he seemed weird towards the end. I know why, but it was an odd weird, more like a displacement of character. Katniss changed too.

Okay, I know why their characters changed, but I thought it was a little contrived. Effie was just weird, she should have just been killed off. Cinna's ending was stupid. Too spontaneous and his character wasn't killed off properly. We never find out about him, how he got to the position he did. Haymitch- whatever happened to him? Also, President Coin was murdered. Katniss seemed to get off easy, if Collins was going for the whole 'realistic within its context' thing.

Ugh, I don't know how to articulate myself. It was a really good. It just felt like a lot of what happened was placed in there purely so Katniss could rid herself of her mother (for the story) and so that Gale would be shoved out of the picture, even if he was a little annoying. By the way, he got really annoying, really quickly. It was obvious that Collins really ever only wanted Peeta to be the one that remained, which would have been good, but she didn't need to spoil Gale's character in that way.

I just bleh, found the ending depressing and unnecessary with all its death and gore.

Oh and Finnick! Great way to lose the best character -___-

Eh, I disagree on some points. I agree it was way too depressing ... I mean, considering what little happiness you could imagine with Peeta and Katniss ending up together was completely lost amidst all the sadness. There was like zero rejoicing that she ended up with him (and I was hoping for it, as well).

BUT, that said, I think the ending, while a bit rushed, was quite realistic. I didn't expect anybody to punish her more than that for Coin's death - mainly because Coin was the person who would have administered the punishing. With her gone and so many people in support of Katniss, and Katniss half-burned to death, I didn't expect any more, really.

Gale - yeah. I never really liked Gale (I thought he was too ... cliche, for lack of a better word) but I'll admit i hated him by the end of Mockingjay. He was treated rather terribly. Cinna's death was way back in Catching Fire, though. I had hoped he wasn't dead, but apparently so.

I don't think that Collins did it to shove her mom and Gale out of the picture though. I mean, that would've been easy enough. Kill off her mum, get Gale out of the picture. I think the main turning point of the book - for me - was Finnick's death. It was just horrible. On the other hand, I enjoyed the change in Peeta. It was weird, but refreshing. And it kind of made me appreciate Peeta more.

I still think it was a good book. I mean, from a reader's point of view, it's too depressing to be good. But from a writer's point of view, it was successful. It left a lasting impression on readers, made quite a few of them cry <_< and it made it a memorable series, overall, whereas a happy ending would have made it 'just another series.' Tragedy sticks. Loose ends were tied up, and the book ended with nearly the same atmosphere it started with, so from a writer's point of view - it's just sort of delivering what was promised.

I think there wasn't much going on throughout the book until the end. Then only one paragraph explained what happened after it was all over. BAH!

That's true! I was really disappointed! I think that the end went too fast and author didn't explain enough. I would have liked to read more about Peeta's and Katniss' children and what happened with Gale. Ok, he moved to other district but what else?

But I still liked the last book. I hated that part when Prim died. )8

I liked the whole series. I read all three a few weeks ago. I too thought the last book could have had a better ending. I hoped Peeta would have become the new leader of Panam because I felt the books were leading up to that when they said how well of a speaker he was. Katniss even mentioned the thought herself in the last book.

I agree, Mockingjay was definitely my least favorite out of all three.

...is it morbid of me to say I would have liked to read about the final Hunger Games with all of the Capitol children?
I really like survival-type situations, much like Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.  I absolutely LOVED the first book, however.  It caught my interest immediately, and I even got my sister to read it, and she likes reading mysteries mostly.

Really?  Anything in particular that made you hate it?
My sister thought it was AWESOME but very confusing.  Trying to get her to read CF Mockingjay currently.  Although she is reading Skulduggery Pleasant, so that's a bonus.

It was dull. Mind, I last read it when I was about 12, so it's been over 8 years haha.
