I was thinking, if they made a movie out of it, the best song for the part when Matt hears the whispering would be Skillets whispers in the Dark. Wouldn't it?

I have this song stuck in my head as summarising another point in another series, and I completely can't think of it any other way now!
And creepy moments like that are more suited to eerie music maybe... a song like that's more credits-music material perhaps?
