kvetha all of you! (SPOILERS) I have just finished Inheritance. Fabulous book...compared to Brisingr that is. What was annoying though, was the fact that, once the purpose of the whole series was complete, there was still like...another story! And this side story (finding a place to raise young Riders) could have been a book in it's own right...IT TOOK 200 PAGES!!! If Paolini hadn't gone on in his usual way, I could have gone to bed at 1:30 am and not 3 am! (usually I read books in one day, but this bad boy was a 3 day job. I finished the House of Silk (fabulous) and then read 60 pages, then managed to get up to page 250 the next day...and then finished it).
People kept saying though that this book was full of annoying twists. It was not, it was damn predictable! (Although I thought that Nasdu whatever would hatch the green egg at first). It was also anti-climactic! I think that Murtag's real name changing was not emphasised enough...Galby died a bit too easily! Anyway, definitely best book of the cycle...
Read on for rant about my dislike of insignificant details:
Eragon drops his sword. We have half a page of how Eragon managed to drop the sword, and then another half page on him debating grabbing it or not. I was like "Oh poo! Eragon has just lost his sword for the second time in *checks* 100 pages. Oh, it doesn't seem that bad now...but still. He has lost it!". And then there is half a sentance about how Earagon was able to grab it back. So I was like...WHY!!!. Protagonist learns nothing from it, and there is not major story line thing about it! ARRRRGGGG! And then there is the page wasted describing the Hall they are staying in on that Dragon Island place. POINTLESS!!! ARRRRRGGGG! Inheritance was still a "Good Thing" though, and I enjoyed reading it
Quote
As for Murtagh, why don?t we spend a little time from his perspective? We're not supposed to sympathise with him being forced to do evil things unless it's from somebody else's point-of-view? You know what helps build empathy, right? SPENDING A LITTLE TIME IN THE CHARACTERS OWN <PROFANE> SHOES WHILE HE'S SUFFERING. THAT IS THE WHOLE <PROFANE> POINT OF EMPATHY.
What a fantastic point!

...Actually, what even was the inheritance? And who inherited it?
It haunts me too this day...

Reading back I notice so many more missed opportunities for more profanity. *sighs*
I do think that was one of my better points though, peds.

Could have had a better ending a book ago, to be fair. Actually, ending it in general is better.

Burn...
I can't even be bothered to read it. I know what happens now, I don't care enough... there's plenty better things I could waste my time reading.

Oh yeah! I forgot to say how much I hated the final book. I stopped reading about 200 pages in and just went and read what happened on wikipedia and decided I hadn't missed out on much XD

Oh no! I took reading the last book very seriously. I downloaded it two hours after it came out. Bought a whole bunch of snacks. Settled into bed. Read seriously until it ended.
And then I laughed and laughed and laughed and made a post ranting about it on Page 25.

So nerdy that it appears to be about to topple over the edge of nerdiness and into the realm of tragedy...

If someone who diligently read the whole series cover to cover can't tell me the answer to that, then Paolini really screwed up when he decided on a title.

I assume, having diligently read the whole series, it's discussing Paolini /Inheriting/ the plotline from Star Wars and /Inheriting/ the ending from LoTR.

I just finished Inheritance recently and I vowed that I wouldn't touch this topic until I'd finished it. If only I had, I would have been spared the pain of reading this 850 page book only to be so disappointed I seriously considered going back to the store that sold me this book and harassing them until they gave me a refund. Then I thought of tracking Paolini down and ranting at him until he gave me back all the time i spent reading THESE STUPID BOOKS! Because honestly now I'm angry at myself! For spending so much time anticipating this book's release and it's ending! For continuing to read Inheritance even when I didn't like it! BUT MOSTLY BECAUSE, FOR ONCE, I DIDN'T JUST READ THIS THREAD!!!!!
On a side note all of your rants helped me feel a bit better (as did throwing all his books across the room [several times])...

This isn't inheritance, this is stealing.

Plagiarism is the correct term. Stealing is a strong word...

I considered writing plagirism but I thought that it only applied to an author's specific story rather than just a plotline.
Besides I was ranting.

I was really implying plaigiarism, that's why I had /Inheriting/ in italics
But yeah. It is quite hilariously unoriginal... I still can't get over how we predicted the plot ages ago.
