Nope, the luna pull is causing the waves to go crazy, it doesn't matter where you are, new york was destroyed in the book I think and the pull also caused dormant and extinct volcanoes to become active plus theres also an epidemic and crazy weather and no electricity and shortage of food, fuel, oil and water...
I'm not sure to believe that aliens exist, same way I believe in ghosts...I don't believe in them but at the same time I do.

maybe your like me... believe its possible but need the proof before you fully believe it.
they say that the moon already affects certain things, like the tide, or something like that. so if it was closer it would sort of... enhance, (dont know if thats the right word for it)the effects

Yeah, the pull affects tides and volcanoes...can you imagine living in an all gray world
And yeah I believe it could be possible...this is off topic but I sort of had proof of ghostly existence (unless what happened was a coincidence)I dared my friends little sister (during a sleepover) to sort of summon bloody mary and after she did, the lights started flickering on and off, the door suddenly opened (and it was locked tight) and there were footsteps coming up the stares when everyone but the three of us was asleep and the windows suddenly opened...plus there was a moaning...and I'm sure it isn't the work of a mercury retrograde

yes it does. If its close enough there would be LOTS of tsunamis and volcano eruption and other natural disasters.

Yeah!
Thats why, when my brother asked what would happen if the moon crashed in to the earth I went on a HUGE lecture to him, I explained how its the luna pull and bla, bla, bla...I won't say it all here, but I loved eery moment of my brothers slack-jawed face!
Haha!

i know a series of books (life as we knew it, the dead and the gone - Susan pfeffer) about when an asteroid hits hte moon bringing it closer.
there were tons of volcanoes and tsunamis etc... and there was stuff like tropical diseases becoming common in non tropics and the weatehr got more extreme... i know that wont be entirely accurate but thats the sort of thing i think would happen.

By the way...I don't know if this has been mod approved, if it has, then sorry, but I think this could be put under Science or something? I'll see if I can find some links.

hah, no I havent, wish I had heard of it earlier then I could suggest it to my science teacher and possibly he might turn the lesson temporarily on astronomy...but too late we are stuck on food webs now.
ooh Life as We knew iT was cool, with the diseases and tsunamis and all....and if the moon disappeared...wow, lets just say life would be very different, though Im not sure whether its a good thing or a bad. Some author MUST write about it soon, why didnt they think of it earlier, astronomy would be CHANGED FOREVER!!! (exaggarating)

not a bad idea. Though this should go in ART AND WRITING.
Isnt planet X just so ...wonderful. Its probably going to be big, as its definitely the planet causing disturbances to Neptune and Uranus's orbits, why cant astronomers discover it already and send a space mission.(tragic sigh)

I so agree!
Must be amazing...I've spent ages revising it...even though we're not doing astronomy in science.
*sigh* The closest my stupid schools get to science is looking up at the night sky...in lessons the closest we got was the big bang.
I aced that...space is easy peasy.
Love it!
