possibly (SPOILER!!!! gosh the wrong tense could give away everything to bingo) the chairman has a back up plan.

I CANNOT TAKE THIS, NECROPOLIS SPOILER!!!!!!

the chairman probably had a back up plan but now that all the villans have gone really its just the 5 and the old ones.

I think most of what bingo said (amazingly enen though she has not read necropolis) is right, they would rather be safe than sorry

The Chairman is completely delusional - WARNING  NECROPOLIS SPOILER!!! - He is excited that his reward will be to rule over all Asia, but there won't be anyone left to rule over (so what's the point)- plus the fact they he isn't really gonna get this, the old ones will just torture and finally kill him like the rest!! the psychopathic fool- he knows the old ones want to destroy humanity, yet he still convinces himself that his life wil still be fine and dandy!! cheesy

true- maybe he sees himself as an honorary 'old-one' cheesy , or perhaps he has lost all sense of his humanity through years of wrong-doing and delusions of grandeur!

ANSWER THE $#@*ing QUESTION!

« Reply #19 on: November 20, 2008, 04:52:56 AM »

or maybe he just doesn't care anymore. maybe he is in it for the kicks now. if he is successful and is allowed to rule thats great. if he's dead it wont really matter. that kind of thing is scary in its own way

yeah that is but in the Evil star book he did seem like he didnt care for his own life much but also he didnt want to die how does that make sense? also what about the Chairman he seemed pretty sane for a bad guy

I got the sense that he doesnt mind dying as long as he has witnessed many more suffer and die before him!

Yeh, i know- he's alos very superstitious, so- SPOILER -  if something is predicted he will alllow it to happen regardless, or perhaps he just thought it was much less painful than the death he would be subjected to by the old ones!

still unlike the bad guys from the other books i mean u have to emet he is the only one that did what was in his best interset instead of just being a lunitic for the return of the old one like the people from Lesser Malling in Ravens Gate right?

yh, i don't think he would do it (despite how evil he is!) if there was no gain for him at the end of it- and thats where i think he's a bit mental, cos he's intelligent and knows a reasonable amount about how the old ones work, therefore he probably knows that they will end up killing him at some point yet he continues to do there bidding and continues to demand his handsome reward. at the end of the day i think he just enjoys killing and watching people suffer, as long as it isnt him, and he'll worry about the less pleasing details of the arrangement at a later date!

matt10 can you please use you instead of u. he thought he would gain fro helping the oldones but i think before the begining of necropolis he realised that they would kill him but he was to far in so he kept going, hoping that the oldo ones would give him a plesant death

Hey, that is a good question. We can't understand why the bad guys follow the Old Ones...
But Salamanda explains some reasons, in Evil Star. He says that he wants power and wealth, more than he has. They are only cupid. And those who follow the Old Ones think they will be rewarded if they do what they are told to do. And the Old Ones choose people with a certain influence (i'm talking about the Chairman or Susan Mortlake, not Father Gregory grin) and manipulate them, they disturb their mind.
