Fang is a bit too emotionless. And he's not. Why doesn't he get annoyed when Max is jealous about Brigit and not being so nice?
i dont think he's emotionless its just that his emotions arent shown in the book, he doesnt get anoyyed becaues he likes Max.

JP. He's overly arrogant and up-himsel
probably a side effect of the whole best selling author thing

Ok fine, if Fang was doing it to get Max jealous then ok, he didn't have to get angry. But if they are just friends and he likes her in a friends way, the scorn and distrust shown by Max would make most people a little peeved...
Yes, it probably is. And I don't like that about him. His books are in no way written well enough for him to be able to be arrogant! It's quick, repetitive and as subtle as a brick. The humour is pretty much slapstick sarcasm, only repeated again and again and again... it's not the sort of book that will be remembered by generations. Harry Potter will be remembered for a long time. The Beatles ARE a legend in the music world, they'll be remembered too. This? I can't talk about America but I know in England I'd never heard of JP until this board.

I'm still laughing at the review
For the most part, I agree with everything you said. The series didn't actually get me angry at FW - I acknowledged it was worse than the rest, but it was MAX and FANG that actually made me furious.
The JP interview was rather funny, though. In a sad way. I thoroughly disliked it. I much prefer it when he has excerpts from Fang's blog in the end. I prefer my authors humble, thank you very much. A rarity amongst authors, but even Stephen King isn't half as bad when talking about his own books, and he's an actually GOOD author.
Tai - well, fair enough (about what you said on the site) although I had an account that lasted all of ... four days.

Yeah, it is. King is a legend , and he can be cocky (even though he's not). Patterson isn't a legend. He's not big enough to be arrogant.

yeah i didnt say he had the right to be arrogant...then again who does. still MAX and FANG are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Final warning, and their fighting thier way to the best in the series in my opinion.

Well, whilst you didn't say he had a right... you certainly insinuated it.

Yes, it could. But Twilight is a bestseller. That doesn't make it good, just popular.
And I'm about half way through Max. Yeah, it's a lot better. But still...

I'm a bit shocked I'm saying this, but I honestly would rather read New Moon than Fang. That's how bad it is.
I thought that Fang was quite frankly ridiculous and still do.

I've mentioned this before, but -
Dylan?
Angel?
Flock splitting up AGAIN, for no good reason?
ANGEL?!
DYLAN?!
Max and Fang running off for no reasons other than to have a 'romantic moment' in the books, whereas had this been two books earlier neither would have thought of such a dumb thing as Vegas?
The whole becoming movie stars thing?
Angel?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The ending? Which was sweet, but literally makes no sense.
Total getting married? Wth. It might have been a comic thing at the time, but it's stupid.
The starving kids mentioned in the beginning then complete ignored for the rest of the book ...
ANGEL?!
I don't even /remember/ the villain ... it was that bad. He was completely forgettable. It was just ... bad. It lost its touch as Bird Kids on the Run ... or even Bird Kids
Together
. The addition of Dylan was odd and unnatural and doesn't seem plausible for any reason other than JP wanted it so. And the way it was written was frustrating. JP just lingered on one thing "Oh, hey, this is Dylan, he's perfect" and then switches to another, "Hey, Angel's in charge of the flock, even though Iggy is fourteen" and then to another "Fang and Dylan fighting over Max, Max being all whiny" and then to another "Angel's evil. No, Angel's good. Nope, she's evil." WITHOUT PROPERLY GOING INTO ANY OF THIS!
It just happens. Then a joke. Then another twist. Then pointless drama/action. Then another twist.

They did that because Max got kicked out of the flock because she cared more about Fang than anybody else in the flock, and i mean really how cool would a trip to vegas be.

Dylan?
fair enough, but seriously with a company like Itex i'm surprised Omega hasnt showed up.

ANGEL?!
well, you do have to admit a lot of people saw that coming, seriously she has enough power to take over anybody.
Quote
Total getting married?
good point but still it was a funny part in the book, where else do you see a dog getting married?
and the thing with Dylan and Fang fighting, frankly if i was fang i'd fight like hell for Max to, plus Dylan is anoyying i admit.

I'll do your quoting thing, then.
Quote
They did that because Max got kicked out of the flock because she cared more about Fang than anybody else in the flock, and i mean really how cool would a trip to vegas be.
... that's precisely why JP put it in. Not because it makes sense, no. Not because it's interesting. But because people reading it would think it's "cool" because its Vegas.
I have no problems with cool if its IN CONTEXT. I can see the Flock doing it (they went to Disneyland, and it was cool.) Besides, he barely explained any of it. One minute they're flying away, next they're relaxing in a casino, sure, yeah, whatever. It's done horrifically.
Quote
fair enough, but seriously with a company like Itex i'm surprised Omega hasnt showed up.
I would have liked it better if Omega HAD shown up! It would have made far, far more sense, and it would have been cooler.I LIKED the Itex idea. But JP completely ruined it. Itex was an excellent concept. But he seemed to forget it, then insert it randomly, and by then it was entirely garbage.
Quote
they did that because the Angel, ig and Gaz kicked em out.
That's idiotic. They're the two in charge. They left a bunch of kids by themselves? I'm sorry. Max and Fang would NEVER have done that in the first two books, especially not for such a stupid reason. Moreover, Gazzy, Nudge and Iggy would never have agreed to it. Angel already knew Fang was in love with Max. What was the big deal?
The big deal is JP needed a twist in the plot. After all, he hadn't had one for two whole pages.
Quote
ell, you do have to admit a lot of people saw that coming, seriously she has enough power to take over anybody.
WHY would anyone see that coming?! Angel is seven years old. The flock went through HELL to rescue her. She loves Max AND Fang. It makes absolutely no sense for her to want it. Sure, she had power. But she's had power for the past five books ...
It was, once again, done ridiculously. It would have been believable (great, even) if JP had waited until Angel was older, had something actually trigger the change rather than have it happen randomly, and have everyone else question it ... I mean, Iggy is fourteen and he can see colors, why's he letting a seven year old boss them around? And more than that, boss them around into HOLLYWOOD, wtf?!
Not to mention, it wasn't even clear. Angel's good. No, Angels bad. Wait! She's good again. Nooo, she's bad. Good! Bad! ... So yeah, I didn't see it coming. Maybe I was too busy getting sideswiped by all the other random twists, such as Total getting wings and Dylan.
Quote

and the thing with Dylan and Fang fighting, frankly if i was fang i'd fight like hell for Max to, plus Dylan is anoyying i admit.
Comedically, its fine, but it entirely ruins the idea of Max Ride. Total is a genetically engineered dog. Akira is not. Therefore, the marriage doesn't even make sense.
Lastly, yes. I'd totally agree with Dylan and Fang fighting if (again) it had been done properly. For instance, the first time Fang kissed Max was great. It was three books in (a record time in JP world, if he'd written Harry Potter I have no doubt Snape would have killed Dumbledore before Voldemort was even introduced) and it was appropriately surprising, or at the very least interesting.
Then he ruined it all by having Dylan step in all of a sudden, and then him and Fang don't even FIGHT properly! It's just a stare-down, then Fang and Max abandon the flock to go to Vegas just because.
Honestly, I liked the series so much better when Ari was there. Even though the poor guy didn't have a chance to shine before JP cruelly ruined his plot line as well.

...ehhh well actually the Maximum ride site hundreds of people thought that Angel was going to do that. literally there is like 20 threads on that site for "What if angel took over..."

....sorry about this, but technically it was the first at the beach, and i think they might have kissed in the second one but i havent read that in a year or so.

yeah i do kinda wish there had been an actual fight, that would've been cool.

like is said, Max was kicked out of the flock, because Angel kept saying she cared to much for fang over the others.

good point. ari was a great character, i'd love the series a lot more if the erasers came back, which im hoping will somehow stem out of Max seeing herself as an eraser now and again.
