this is my theory on Mrs.Derevills painting;
Mrs D's was a witch in the middle ages, when the people of her former village discovered it she hid in a painting of herself. her releatives came and took the painting to lesser malling where centurys later she was awakened after the fellow witches senced that the 5 were there once more.
