I wanted to let you all know The Gathering comes out on DVD Jan. 30th in the U.S.
It's being released by Harvey Weinstein, that pig.
A little side subject about the pig, he has 5 movies coming to dvd soon, and he will only allow blockbuster to rent them. No other stores will be allowed to rent them, one of the titles is School of Scoundrels.

Harvey Weinstein is a movie monopoly. He was the one who was suppose to promote Stormbreaker here in the U.S. He promised so much, then did nothing. I never once saw a trailer for the movie, or one single promotion. The only promoting I saw was Anthony and Alex themselves coming to a near by book store to promote it. They busted their tails across the states to try and promote a movie that Harvey was never going to give a chance to, but he'll release the 50th animated junk film of the year in it's place.
If you look at some of the comments made by Anthony himself you'll see how Harvey became absent when it was time for the wide release in the states. Harvey can make or break you, he has the power to make sure you do zero business in the Hollywood film industry.
He's the Bill Gates of financing movies and owning rights.
I'm sorry for posting the pig comment, won't happen again.

ok. As I don't live in teh US, I knew nothing of this really...i mean i heard that there hadn't been much advertising, but never in such detail as you said. In belgium there was almost nothing about the gathering, that's why i had to buy the danish version. I'm hoping that with the rerelease there'll be a belgian or at least english version on sale

I've only seen a French trailer. When Anthony was doing his tour of the states for Ark Angel he had mentioned The Gathering.
I think this was one of the films that got shelved here in the U.S. when Miramax, Disney and the Weinstein's went their seperate ways. It's unfortunate because it was at the start of the Ring craze, and all the remade Asian horror films. It would have done well.
When I was trying to find out when it was coming out I came across this, The Gathering was nominated in 2003 for the International Fantasy Film Award, The Golden Fleece and won The Jury Prize at The Gerardmer Film Festival.
I also noticed that some countries that The Gathering has been released in have different running times.
Austria 92 min., Argentina 92 min., France 96 min., Brazil 83 min., USA 92 min.
I wonder what was removed from the Brazilian release and what was added to the French release?

See the funny thing is, in the trailer there's a scene that's not in the version I have. And it's basically Ioan Gruffudd and Christina Ricci sleeping together. I suppose that the french have left that part in.
As for wat they deleted in teh brazil version....in the version i hav (92 mins) it's only the bit where they're sleeping together but you do see the kiss. So perhaps in the brazil version they deleted the entire scene leading up to that?
It is a really good film. I've seen it so much that the dvd is starting to deteriorate even (which leads me to believe that i got badly informed on ebay and that it wasn't an official version, sorry for that. I am trying to find the official version though!)

The Gathering came out today on dvd in the US.
But, you can only find it at your local Blockbuster video. Weinstein has set up a deal with Blockbuster to be the only store to carry it.
Blockbuster had 35+ copies on hand, about the same amount as Stormbreaker. Weinstein has several titles that will only be available at Blockbuster stores. He must have been given a nice paycheck from the company to do this.
I'm watching the film today and I'll come back with a small review of what I thought about it.

Interesting film, not great or bad. It had me the first 20 minutes. Not a scary film, more of a mystery/thriller. Teenage viewers might find it a little slow, and will probably find themselves going " hey isn't that the guy from Pirates of the Carribean " He doesn't say a word in the movie, he just Watches. Or," Isn't that the guy from those horrible Fantastic 4 films ? ". This movie isn't one of your typical Hollywood blow everything up, throw blood in your face kind of movies. This is more like Hitchcock, and from the messages I've received I will be watching it a second time.

OK. not a good thing to say when i'm around, cause personally it's one of my favourites. And the story is good, i don't see how you can say it's not. it's original, it's well thought out. ok it's not as fast paced as some of the blockbusters out there, it's not as horrific as movies like friday the 13th, and in that view then yes, maybe teens wouldn't really be all that interested. but on the other hand, i have it and i've watched it several times already because i think it's so good.
there's a message behind it as well, urging you to when you see something bad happening to take a stand, and at least show you disapprove.
In all honesty though, like most of his TV work, I don't think it was aimed at teens, it was aimed for adults, so if you as a teen didn't like it much, don't knock it for it, just realise you weren't the public it was intended for
oh and the guy from those 'horrible' fantastic four movies is just dead cute, so don't you dare say anything bad about him :p

I agree with RainbowStar!
The Gathering was amazing. I loved it. I probably would have liked it more if Christina Ricci wasn't in it. The whole time my and my friend were cheering the psycho-path on to kill her. Then, when we found out what she was, were were shocked and horrified.
*Spoiler?*
When she was "killed" and then came back in the Gathering, I said, "She
is
the Devil."
My friend said, "What?"
Me: "She can't be killed!"
As you can tell, I dislike her.
*End of Spolier*
Well, I liked the movie and there are several tennagers who I have shown it to that like it as well. I don't see why it didn't do well.

It went strait to DVD here.
Actually, a lot of my friends saw it at Blockbuster and said it was good, but they didn't know AH wrote it. When I told them, they weren't as impressed as I was. They actually had never heard of them. This is a little off topic, but Screen Writers are highly under recognised. Everyone consintraites on directors and actors, well, I want to know about the writer.
Whatever back on topic.
I don't care if it was low budget. It was still really good and some of the best movies are low budget.

no but low budget movies usually don't do well straight away, that's what i meant. a big budget movie can have merchandise and all that, but a low budget movie doesn't have that, so they need to get it from word to mouth. so far the only people i know that have seen it are AH fans, Ioan Gruffudd fans or Christina Ricci fans...or people that have been forced to watch it by people in one of the previous categories. and to be honest, i'm afraid it's going to stay that way
