It says in the book that their was a magnetic field surronding the prison so that Jamie couldn't use his powers while locked up. It would make it so that his brain waves he sent out got messed up or something to that effect. I personally think thats a bit too, how should I say... Conveniant?

Thats why it also says the location of the prison was chosen because it was a natural dead zone. They chose that place for a reason. that way no kids could use thier powers to influence the guards into letting them go or driving them back home
