Technical questions about the board

I've noticed there's been a couple of people who have come on to the board and just ask questions about something like
"I'm making a movie and I was wondering how gory can I make it for kids"
So could we make a help desk?

Well there are so many places already where people can ask stuff.  We have the Q&A forum for AH related questions, and the technical questions thing.  All the rest can go in topics that already exist.  We have almost every area covered, I think, but if there's one we haven't covered, then we can start a topic to cover it.

A general help desk though could get way too confusing as it would go about so many different things, and basically...that's already what the attic is for...to discuss about anything you can think of.  So anyone having questions like you said, if they don't know where else to ask, they can ask in the attic

but I mean people who just sign up to ask a question, that don't know about the attic. Maybe we don't need it it's just a suggestion.

People who don't know about the attic will most likely also not know about a help desk, if we were to set one up.

Besides, questions like that are not what this forum is meant for.  I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again, and will repeat this as long as need be.  We are the official Anthony Horowitz message board.  Yes we allow general discussion, because people get to know each other here and also want to discuss other things, but we are not here to just help random people and their questions about just about anything.  If people only join to ask how gory a kids movie should be, they are not at the right address here.
Plus, we are not the right people to answer such questions.  Such questions should be directed to people who know something about this.

on the smilys, when you press   :-ofor example, if you turn it into the smily thats into symbols like this  :-o and turn your head  sideways to your right, if you look, its like the actual smily because the clon is the eyes and the dash is the nose, and the circle is the mouth. why is it like that?

that's not really a technical question about this board, hehe.  The code for smilies is about as old as chat software, because they've been using this even back in the day of BBS (Bulletin Board System).

I suppose someone just noticed that a : and a ) put together make up a sideways smiley (the smiley i'm referring to here is the yellow dot one that's been around since the seventies), and the just started elaborating on that

'these topics' is pretty vague....if you go to your own profile though, there's an option to "see topics made by this person", try that

You can just modify your post. It's in the top-right corner of your post.
You edit your profile by clicking "Profile" in the bar that has "Home, Help, Search, Profile, Messsages, Members, Logout" to change you personal info
cub, raven, scorpia, gatekeeper and assasin are ranks for the amount of posts you have posted and Global Moderator is a moderator who can lock topics, delete topics and move topics. Administrator can do what mods can do but also edit the structure of the board.

Cormac, I don't know, but I've noticed that too.  I think it has something to do with the browser you use?  I'm not sure though
