Technical questions about the board

I have it set to the default theme, and it's not that small... Really, I don't know how you can miss it.

And yes, read the rules. I was thinking before, "Isn't this written down rather blatantly somewhere?" But I thought it easier to explain rather than look for it. I'm far too lazy that way.

Yes, it is a bit difficult to find initially, but just look down at the bottom of the thread, and you'll find it.

And once you've accumulated about 15 proper posts or so, you'll be able to edit your profile easily using the tabs on the top. You can also do that to allow the 'Quick-reply' option, which is what I use instead of the rather shifty Reply tab at the bottom. Quick-reply is much easier to use... it's basically an empty box at the bottom of each page where you can type your comment or response easily instead of going to a different window in order to write up a response.

I have a question for some one in charge of banning certain places for the board. So someone who went on the board at my school got banned and now every time I try to log in to the messageboard the site won't let me. School is a place where i go on the board the most and i havnt been able to for about a year now. is there a way to fix it so i can go on at my school?

School's IP was banned it seems. It entirely depends upon when that person was banned, who was banned and why they were banned I think. If it's been a couple of years, it's entirely likely that that person no longer would think about returning to the board. Would you know who was banned?

You're probably best off getting your school's IP (use whatismyip.com) and PMing Xero with the address and an explanation of the problem. =)

You're probably best off getting your school's IP (use whatismyip.com) and PMing Xero with the address and an explanation of the problem. =)

Yes that is the best way of getting the school unbanned. Unfortunately this happens when somebody breaks the rules and we ban them by IP address it can block a lot of real fans. As Hydra said if you send me the IP address I can see if I can unban it depending on the intial reason for banning.

How do you edit your profile?

You click on 'Profile' (on the top menu bar), the on the left hand side there is a column of options. Click on forum profile information, and then you can edit your profile.

You have to have over 15 posts to be able to edit your profile.
I see you're just past that so in case you still aren't sure how to edit it, go to http://anthonyhorowitz.com/msgboard/index.php?action=profile. You will be able to select all the options you want to edit from there. =)

Hey there.

I originally came here in order to ask a question / have a bit of a discussion about something in House of Silk.  However I have found that this board seems... irksome, in various respects, as regards how it works.

For instance, I cannot seem to check my own profile.  I get this message:  Many apologies, but you can't view your own profile.

I also can't seem to check the profile of anyone else.  Or read my private messages (someone sent me a PM and I was only able to read it via my e-mail, not via the site like I assume I should be able to).  Oh, and I can't find a button anywhere to allow me to update my profile.  I just remembered that I also couldn't seem to get the "edit post" button to work a bit ago when I noticed a typo in a post I made.

My assumption is that more posts are required to do these things, but in my opinion it seems a little extreme to limit the use of the board to the point that basic functions can't be used.

If that is the case however, then how many posts am I supposed to have before I can reply to the PM I got?  Or do any of those other things?  I'll be perfectly honest and say that I have very little intention of hanging around and becoming an active poster but these problems actually managed to interest me enough that I wanted to ask.

Ah, I see from the previous poster that 15 posts are required to edit a Profile.  That makes a good bit of sense -- but to view them?

Heh, maybe I'll try to go and make 15 meaningful/useful posts and see what that gets me.  And sorry for the double post -- I can't seem to edit things yet.
