English/British Mistake
«
on:

I read this part a few times and was really confused until I remembered that in the British version Alex goes to Venice with his school.
(Page 28; American Hardcover)
"...A large, crowded boat was just pulling out, a number one bus. The
school party
had taken it from the main railway station the day they had arrived..."
In the English version, he just goes with Tom, but in the British version he goes with his whole school. This was just a school trip reference that was missed during editing.
I searched to see if anybody else posted this, but I didn't find another similar post, sorry if this IS a double.

There used to be a topic about this, but I think was locked a long time ago...it could be in the topic bin, I'm not sure...
For "Scorpia", there were a number of differences between the American and British versions, the school trip thing is just one of them. There was also something about MIss Bedforshire's (sp?) age as well...I believe that she was quite young in the British version and middle-aged in the American version. I don't remember the other differences, but the differences were intentional and aren't mistakes...hope that helps?

Yeah, I know it's not a mistake that they changed it, but just something they missed taking out during editing. What I don't get is why did they change it? Does Anthony think American kids are more used to divorce?

In the American version of Snakehead it mentions the school trip, which I thought was weird until I read this topic.
Also, the villain from Point Blanc, Hugo Grief was changed to Marius Grief.

Yes, which version is that from? Because in my version (American) it's Hugo Grief.

mine is too. any reason why there are differences? i've already asked this question, but i still don't quite get why they would make such slight changes, when they could have easily left it the way it was.

Yeah, even the British one said Hugo Grief
But in the American advanced copy of Snakehead, I'm sure I saw Marius Grief somewhere... *searches book* But I can't find it now

In my book he went with his whole school and the guy was called Hugo Grief.
Why do authors change little things like that?

He went with his school in the British version?
well that could change a lot of the parts i like. Where does he get his parachute and stuff then? and does the whole birdseed/robbers/drinking a granita scene exist still? hmm... I might have to investigate

Yeah, that all exists. Erm, Tom's brother Jerry lives in Naples and Tom goes to see him at the end of the trip and Alex kind of, turns up on the train... getting banned from all future school trips, I think xD
