all authors have artistic licence to make things happen as they please to have a better effect upon the reader. as accurate as possible does not mean totally 100% like reality, for example the chances are that scorpia doesn't exist. AH made several mistakes in snakehead and they are listed in another thread but my point is that although his research is good or as good as it can be, this is fiction, not nonfiction and like meggy said some people would laugh at the idea of a waterfall being called 'jim jim'.
PS meggy - i am also an odd person

I knew he'd made one mistake, but not several. I think that was very rightly put actualy, you couldnt really do that in non-fiction.

of course there won't be such thing as Scorpia. That's made up. When AH said that he'd make it as accurate as possible he wouldn't mean organizations. some of the things AH found out about he was not allowed to use in his books. Sites however are just that. they can be used. So who cares about what it's called. If he had used the Jim Jim Falls then he would have called it Jim Jim Falls. The name has no effect whatsoever besides the fact that it's called that. So long story short, whatever water fall AH would use, he'd name it correctly. Bora Falls may not be popular though so it wouldn't be on the internet

dude... im not trying to prove that he is inaccurate. im just trying to find reasons he would include a waterfall that as far as we can tell doesn't exist. if the bora falls do not exist then why use the name for them. im not trying to argue with you, i am merely trying to explain why he would include a nonexistant waterfall in snakehead, so far the only explanation i can think of is the one i put above and that you quoted. if anyone finds the actual bora falls then my explanation is wrong, as he was using a real name. do i care? nope.

and all i'm saying is that AH, himself, said that he tried to make this book as accurate as possible. i just don't believe he would make up a waterfall. He didn't make up the Nazca Lines in the Gatekeepers series. Why make up a water fall? unless he was not allowed to use the waterfall, that he saw when he traveled there, because of some issue, he would not have made up a waterfall or have changed the name of one.

Well i did some more research and to be honest with you, Jim Jim Falls is looking more and more like the water fall AH used. But there's still some loose ends to cover. According to the book, in the chapter called "Spare Parts" Alex was sent to a camp that was a mile away from Arnhem Land. The Bora Falls would be about a half a mile from the camp. According to the book the water fall looked as if he was heading towards "A straight line that marked the end of the world." (chapter called "White water" 2nd to last paragraph, 1st sentence, American version) According to my research, that is the edge of Arnhem Land plateau (not in Arnhem Land). That's looking more and more like Jim Jim Falls. Jim Jim falls is also on the edge of Arnhem Land plateau. Here's the difference though:
1) Jim Jim Falls is around 330 meters high. Bora Falls is 50 yards high (45.72 meters).
2) Also the book is dealing with a straight plateau edge. The picture of Jim Jim Falls does not show a straight plateau. It's like it's on the bottom of the letter "U". The "U" is the plateau and in the middle is the land below where the water fall ends.
3) Finally i checked a map of Kakadu National Park (the camp AR went to is located there). (the map was last updated June 2006.) Arnhem Land surrounds Kakadu National Park. Jim Jim Falls is about 10 miles from Arnhem Land. Bora Falls is (depending on which way the river, AR was on, went [east or west]) is between 1/2 a mile to 2 miles. (2 miles if the river flowed westward, 1/2 a mile if the river flowed easward)

Yeah well i figured that if the internet doesn't have any results for Bora Falls then maybe i can find some good information about the place it's located in. They also mentioned that there were a lot of waterfalls there and that doesn't suprise me because the map shows a lot of rivers. it wouldn't suprise me that there isn't anything on Bora Falls though. Since Bora Falls is only about 45 meters high, it wouldn't be all that great a waterfall.
