Actually, only STORMBREAKER was based on the movie. All the others, including POINT BLANC (and SKELETON KEY, which I'm finishing up right now!) are/will be based on Anthony's novels.

Hi Antony,

Great to have you on the board! How difficult is it to adapt an existing novel as opposed to writing one of your own works?

Cheers,

I wouldn't say one is necessarily more difficult than the other, they're just very different, and present different challenges.

Obviously, adapting a novel means I don't have to come up with the central plot, or dialogue. But on the other hand, writing an original book means I can just make scenes as long as I want, and basically do whatever I want. Adapting is much more disciplined, and - because the story has to be compressed to fit in a graphic novel - means I have to make decisions on what to cut, what to leave in, work out how to shorten dialogue, and so on (All done with Anthony's approval, of course).

Honestly, I enjoy doing both. They exercise different parts of the "writer's brain", which I think is very healthy for a writer. We're often apt to wander off into flights of fancy, so having to be quite disciplined and strict about a book is refreshing. And of course it helps when I really enjoy the books I'm adapting, which is certainly the case with Anthony's novels Smiley

Thank you, you're too kind Smiley

The script for SKELETON KEY is now finished, by the way (though I'm not sure if Anthony's seen it yet, so it may need some final changes), and it was a lot of fun to do. Very different to the previous two, as I'm sure anyone who's read the novels will agree. I believe it will be available around autumn 2008.

Also, good news for purists; because we're now following the novels exclusively, we've done a bit of jiggery-pokery to bring the graphic novel continuity in line with the original novels, especially with regard to Sabina. So by the end of the SK GN, apart from the fact that Sabina already knows Alex is a spy, we're ready for EAGLE STRIKE - which I'll be writing next year Smiley

No offence to you or anyone but I don't like graphic novels I think it takes away from the book itself....

No offence taken, but it's a bit simplistic to say they somehow "take away" from the novels. Nothing about the novels has changed, and nobody's forcing anyone to read them. And the graphic novels are all approved by Anthony himself, remember.

There's a good story about Raymond Chandler - when he was asked if he thought the Hollywood versions had ruined his books, he pointed to his bookshelf and said "Nope, they're all still there."

I believe Autumn is still the plan, yes. I know the artists have already started work, so hopefully everything should go smoothly.

No idea about a POWER OF FIVE graphic novel, sorry. I only know about what I'm working on myself Smiley
