Yeah well i mean he doesnt talk about his personal life, and i mean he works for the goverment but i bet in the next and last book theyll release some background on him i hope

Anywho, I actually like Alan. On the outside he totally seems like a one-dimensional character, but I think on the inside he's way more complex. I mean, think about it...

I also feel that is Alex did die, Alan would be very upset. Not because he would lose his job or anything like that, but just because I really feel that Alan cares for Alex a great deal, and if he died, Alan would go all Princess Bride on the killer:

Well what do you expect he's the boss of a secret service.  More preciously he's the Director of MI6.  He must be tactital, cunning, conniving, cold and ruthless.  Plus it's his job.  Luckily I got along with my superiors (Big Boss and Roy Campell).  But I have to addmit, he's a bit hard on Alex.  After all the boy is only fourteen.  I'll tell you this if I was Alex I would CQC the *******.

I like Blunt very much. I think he just doesn't have a vast variety of emotions to use. His job isn't to express emotions, and he's probably so blunt and grey so he would feel less if one of his agents died.
