Rider rules, you have no idea how much you sound like my cousin...
Anywho, Honor Harrington is an awesome series with a female protagonist. Admittedly, it's aimed a little older than stuff like Alex Rider or The Hunger Games. More like 15 and over. But still very awesome. It's written by David Weber, and the first book is called On Basilisk Station.
It's Sci-Fi. If you've ever read/seen Hornblower by C.S.Forester, think Hornblower meets Star Wars.

Why? I admit, Mockingjay was really depressing, but they're not that bad! The first book was ace!

Seriously with me its allll about the ending. Especially with trilogies. If you dont get the ending right it ruins it.

Personally I've read a lot of books with female protagonists. Can't name them all or I'd be here for hours. The thing I noticed with most of those books, is that there's always a guy hanging around the protagonist. This sadly draws your attention away from the actual protagonist, and it defiantly leads me to major confusion. I do like it when there are male protagonists though, because when it's a guy telling the story there actually aren't as many distractions. With girls you get the wonderful tangle of emotions, as well as trying to get through the plot.

Wait a second. Are you saying that guys don't have emotions? I think that that is bordering on strong sexism. There are many different types of guys, some don't feel that much emotion, some feel emotion, but don't talk about it, but there are lots of guys who definitely have feelings, and show them.
If, however, you are talking about girls always having feelings for up to 7 guys at a time, wondering which is nicest and constantly contemplating the complexities (I love alliteration) of feminine friendship and that crap, I agree with you, I hate that stuff. Can you just turn it down a little, unless it plays a significant part in the story, why the hell is it in there? I would not call it a "wonderful tangle of emotions". I would call it an "annoying plot distraction". Because what I have said earlier in this paragraph is not emotions. It is an extreme case of over thinking everything, which many girls have...unfortunately.

The only girls I know who do that are air-headed bints.
None
of my female friends do that. In fact, we find anyone who does to be just a tad pathetic.

I did not suggest that it was a majority, just there were lots of them. You must have a good group of friends.

Ah. You know, I think I may have read 'many girls have' as 'most girls have'.
Ehn. The point stands.

This... is true. In stories, that is, I won't be drawn into the girls/guy drama of real life. But most of the books I have read with female protagonists always include a male of sorts (or a few males of sorts, who are usually good-looking and sarcastically witty with a smirk). Even the Hunger Games, which is decent, although

(so true, God) ... yeah, anyway, even the Hunger Games, which are pretty awesome and kickass for a female protagonist, have the whole love triangle thing. This is not necessarily bad (I think it's because most girls do enjoy reading this sort of thing) but its there regardless.
The only books I've read that don't would be the Skulduggery Pleasant ones (strong contender for female protagonists) and perhaps the Abhorsen trilogy, which hardly has love issues for three books with mostly female protagonists.

Sorry about the misunderstanding with my earlier post. I did mean what I said about the female protagonists being petty and foolish. With guy protagonists they do have emotions, don't get me wrong, but guy protagonists seem to have clearer thought processes. Guys don't let their emotions totally rule their way of thinking, as most girl protagonists do.
I really don't enjoy when you have a girl protagonist who has like 4 guys she's interested in. It does and something to the plot, but I just think it's too much. The whole time I read books like those all I can think is "Just pick a boy and move on". When there's only one guy in the picture it's much more clear because the protagonist is thinking less about guys and more about the task at hand.

Girls are overly dramatic and take things too seriously.
They keep falling in love I mean seriously? Ur supposed to be killing the guy not loving him.

Wow, way to be sexist. Asides from that being a massive over-generalisation and utterly incorrect stereotype, I think you'll find that female protagonists are mostly only written that way in teenage romances.
Which are more often than not piles of crap and a waste of perfectly good paper.
