True.  I hope her next book is really good and about something totally different from the HP series, grin.

Yeah if it had wizards everyone would wonder where Harry was.  grin There is so much she can do outside the series, there's a wide range to choose from.

I loved her books a few years ago; though tthey were the only books that existed in the world. Now... well, i've found so many more that outshine Harry by galaxies. I've decided her Style is beautiful, but her books and actually writings are rather drab. I still like HP, but he's not the greatest anymore.

Do you realize that whatever else she'll write will sell in an instant just because of who she is?

eh...I don't think she should retire...if you really are passionate about writing, then it doesn't matter how much money you're making as long as you can support yourself (and she obviously can)

It's likely J.K. Rowling will focus on children's books for now but I think she has the potential to write teen and/or adult stories, too...I agree with Alexneedsanewgirl, though: whatever her next series is, it better not be blown out of proportion. I mean, Harry Potter was good, but people were treating it like it was the only worthy series in the world...which it obviously wasn't/isn't. It's cool when books obviously do well (messageboards, movies) but seriously, HP became wayyyyyyy too commercialized xD

I know what you mean masterwolfie! HP is good and all, but it isn't THAT good.

Not enough to be this obsessive about, anyway.

Yeah I guess but HP is a really good "gateway drug". A lot of people are now reading other books because they enjoyed HP.

I don't agree with that at all. She puts so much more into her stories than just the plot. Everything that happens in her books, at least every major plot, is all foreshadowed, even in book one. She had everything planed out well in advance, before she even know if there would ever be anymore books. I have never come across another author like that. Most people make things up as they go along and follow general guide lines; she doesn't.

i dont know if she'll keep writing after this... and yeh, I like Harry Potter but there are many books out there that people aren't glancing at because all you can hear people clamouring about is 'Harry Potter'... admittedly, I didn't read Lord of the Rings until after I'd read 'The Philosopher's Stone', but you can see where a lot of Rowlings 'original' ideas come from... one series is the 'Dark Is Rising' sequence, 'Lord of the RIngs' is perhaps the most obvious...but as there are only 7 original ideas in the world, I won't hold this against her! grin

She will keep writing. She's said that in an interview already.

i read in an interview that she would take a break before she continues writing. this isnt what i read but it kind of says the same thing: 'Ms. Rowling has said in recent interviews that she plans to take a break after her publicity obligations for the Harry Potter series are over. Fans expect that she will not go long, however, before she will be at work again on something new (she has already said she started a fairy tale featuring a monster for younger children some time ago). She has also said she may write a reference book about Harry Potter's fantasy world for charity at some point.'

Yah, she said if she was to write another book on Harry Potter it'd be some sort of encyclopaedia. Hogwarts a History, or A Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi perhaps? It could be anything!
