I came across this article in search of the third nightrise competition clue

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/18/books/review/18queenan.html?ex=1308283200en=63e687760dc7161aei=5088partner=rssnytemc=rss&pagewanted=all

i think everyone should read it so that we can set up a hate topic against New York Times

That was the worst article i have ever read. They went on and on about stuff that isn't right. They calle Alex humorless. These book make me laugh all the time. Once they said he was too good to be true and then they said the realistic stuff makes Alex look slow. That made me soooo mad.  tongue

AR543 is right: everyone has different opinions so there's no need to make a NY Times hate group---at least not on this messageboard.
I have to say though, the NY times usually has really bad taste xD you should have seen the review they gave for the most recent Narnia movie. That movie was a work of art: excellent cinematography, music, make-up, actors, and adaptation of the book but the NY Times was bashing it like crazy...or was it the Times magazine? ah well xD

I know people should have their own views but you get a little defensive when they start slagging off your fav author. The funny thing with the article is that the NY times no.1 childrens book last year was Ark Angel so hmm?

Also not sure if this is true but heard somewhere that Charlie Higson is actually American so maybe a little biased?

That makes me so angry. AH's books aren't  totally realistic but that's one reason why they're so good!
The author of that article is extremely biased against teens, thinking that we're all mindless and influenced by everything, and against English authors, because both of those authors are English. Then he says that the books copies off of James Bond, which as my English teacher said, every book is copied off of another book's idea and that's okay as long as it isn't total plagiarism. That guy makes me extremely embarrassed to live in the United States. I'm totally going to write something to him!

The fact that Ark Angel was the number one children's book in the NY Times means NOTHING about the editors and writers! Let me explain, for future reference: The fact that it's number one does not mean that it was the NY Times' favorite--no, no. It means that it was the bestselling book in its category for whatever period of time, as charted by the NY Times. The Alex Rider series is rather popular among kids and teens in the US. Obviously not with the editors of the NY Times, but whatever.
And Narnia was okay. The thirty-minute epic battle sequence was a bit much, though. It was about a page long in the novel.

I wasn't meaning that NY Times had voted it no.1, what I was trying to say was that it kind of counts as evidence that the books are better than Charlie Higsons' series because the actual audience that the books are meant to captivate have voted Alex Rider top if you know what I mean.

Saddly the Alex Rider books don't get a whole lot of publisity (sorry can't spell) and its bad that what they do get is not good. I wish I had heard about Alex sooner and stuff like this doesn't help.

I just recently read Blood Fever. I enjoyed it, but (having no James Bond to compare it too-never seen/ read any of his stuff) I realized that it was a well written, educational high quality hardy boys book. Everything happened by chance. I obviously prefer Alex Rider. But Ark Angel may not have been the best to compare it too as Anthony himself said that it was more lighthearted than the rest due to Scorpia's intensity.
I want to e-mail that guy.

I agree. maybe someone should write an editorial and send it in. I bet we could come up with something really good that they would have to listen to. It's an alteritive to hate mail anyway.  smiley

Yes..also we could point out that Alex doesn't want to be a mini 007. He just wants to keep Jack in the country(that is why he agreed to do anything foro MI6 in the first place).
