I agree, I think it's one of the best books I've ever read. I keep trying to get everyone i know to read The Book Theif. However, i read one of his other books, I Am the Messenger, and thought that it was horrible...

the book thief changed my life. words became so important to me and i began to love book more than i thought possible. If I played a role, I would be the mayor's wife... the one who steals/ is given books from. But if I were a boy, I would be Max. I love his story. Or even death. I could be death ( even though that would be weird)

I love the Book Thief!
its such a beautiful story...Zusak isnt so much an author, as a wordsmith...
I cried on and off throughout, and I think it was sadder because theres an innocent lyricism about the way the story's written. my favourite quotes now include so many from the Book Thief, its unbelievable... Max was such a beautiful character...and I have to say reading the Book Thief made me want to hug all the characters, including Death.
I'm currently recommending this book to everyone I know, and no one has read it (that I live near anyway) apart from me and my mum...
I love this book! I'm crying just thinking of certain lines. When I got to part 3, I decided I needed a notebook and pen to write down my favourite quotes...the notebooks pretty full.and im going to re-read it soon...after my mums reread it...
spoiler if you havent read it yet
i loved Max's story about the Wordshaker
. I read it and sat there crying...then re-read it...and am trying to work it into my history coursework (about Hitler)...

The Book Thief is such a living piece of literature. Although the time period it was written in has passed, many elements of the story live in current society. For example, Rudy plenty of children in the world live in families too large to be supported by the parent's income. Liesel lives the life of millions. Being raised as a foster child and undergoing tragedy is all too common of a theme today. Plus the motif of how defying censorship is absolutely wonderful. The book goes so far beyond World War II and the reign of Hitler. It brings up knowledge that is helpful through any circumstance. I love how maiar wrote down quotes. I think if i were to do that I would be pratically copying all of death's monolouges.

I just met Markus again this morning at a event in Marin. The Book Thief is one of the best books I've ever read. And I agree he is Extremely Nice !! I wandered around the LA Times Festival of Books with Markus a few years back, Actually I got him lost. I had met him previously at a event and then saw him in LA, as I was wandering around he saw me and asked if I knew where the author's tent is. I thought I did, but 45 minutes later we still couldn't find it. This morning he foregave me for getting him lost.
He told me he has taken up surfing, He also told me about his next book he's working on, He's having a hard time with it and said he expects it to be out in 2 years. He also told me he's going to have to change a few things in The Book Thief before it's published in Germany. He said he's going to have to change a few names, because they're real people and he doesn't want to get sued.
Here's To Life, Death, and Colours !
