if i was writing the book i would make the battle so that the 5 would have no hope of winning but right at the end some how end up winning.
so it would be some thing like this......the 5 use the dream world to talk with each other because they are nowhere near each other in real life, and they use the library and all the history in it to make a plan on how to beat the old ones...........the old ones know what the 5 are going to do because when they did all that stuff to Scott they hacked his mind and now they can listen in to the plans of the 5.............long story short, they find a way of controlling Matt and they use his powers to distroy the world and because he is the leader out of the 5 they fall apart because he was the one keeping them together and they all look to him for support. so now they feel hope less and defeated, but in the end Richard uses that knife that he was given to kill Matt with it and when he stabs Matt with it, it doesn't kill him it just turns him back to normal but he pretends to be evil and he pretends to kill Richard for stabbing him but really he is just giving him a message to give o the other 4. Matt gets close to the king of the old ones and tricks him in to going some where and thats when the king gets ambushed by the other 4, not knowing, he tells Matt to take care of them and Matt goes over to them and takes out his weapon, the king still thinks that Matt is on his side, and in that moment he turns around and looks at the king and they end up doing some magic and end up killing him and they imprison the rest of the old ones using a new gate.

thats a cool idea... but  i dont think they will turn matt against the five. he needs to be the permanent leader.

I agree, the best thing the five have got is hope. Without matt they have none. They would probably give up if they thought he'd turned after all, they can only win if they're all together

but that's what would make the story interesting! if the five lost their source of unity, could they stil beat the old ones? do they have that will power, that strength within themselves, that allows them to defeat evil, even if their leader is not there?

in my mind that is what will make them truly special.
