I actually like the US one. It seems cooler than the one upstairs in my bookcase (with folded corners from reading it so much). then again, the UK one matches all the others that I have...

i haven't seen the UK covers but i love the American ones there shiny and more simpler than the graphic ones.[

It is the symbol for the space station, there was a point in the book where Alex saw the gaurd uniforms and he noticed a symbol on them and it was described pretty much exactly the same as the cover symbol.
