I just started reading Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, I really like it. I'm already half-obsessed, and I'm only about 1/10 of the way through the book. Really good book. grin

hey..if you've read Does my Head Look Big in This, well i read a book today that kept reminding me of it. Boy Meets Boy, by David Levithan. Yes, a majority of teh main characters are gay, and it is a very good book.
Um.. This guy, Paul, falls in love with Noah, and yeah.. goes on from there. but if you've read Does My Head Look Big in This, Paul's friend Tony is a bit like Leilah, only instead of wanting independance, he wants his parents to be ok with him being gay. Look, its jsut a very good book. XD

I've just read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zhusack (spelling may be wrong). It was Fantastic, really one of the best books I have read in a while.

It's set in Germany during WW2, and it's about this girl, Liesel, living with a foster family. her parents were communists, and to the Nazi's that was a big NO-NO. so they are taken away to a concentration camp. the family she's living with are quite Nice (though it doesn't seem that way initially), but Liesel is rather lonely, and has nightmares of her brother's death. It's basically a story of her life for a few years.

But the interesting thing about it is that the novel is narrated by Death, as in the sort of Grim Reaper concept (even though it's not the Grim Reaper as such). It tells the story from His point of view, and the events that led him to meet her. It was really intense, and rather morbid.  But it still had quite a nice element of reality to it.

The other part of the story is that the family house a Jewish man in secret for quite a large part of the book. And how he  and Liesel become friends, and eventually is taken away.

It was one of the saddest things I have read. I think I've only Cried as much as I did when reading the book once before. It was absolutely Brilliant, you could feel the characters' emotions even though the story wasn't really told through their eyes. Really really amazing talent.

I have just two criticisms : One is the ending, which I thought SUCKED, and the other is that there were really no surprises in the book. Not because it was predictable, but because the narrator tells us what's going to happen at the end before telling us HOW it happens. It was a bit annoying.

But other than that, I really recommend this one.

Oh, I'm also reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. HILARIOUS. Also WW2, but totally different. I'll give a proper review hen I've finished, and that could be a while, so don't hold your breath  wink

"The Way of Shadows

Published: October 2008
Format: MM $7.99 / ?7.99

The perfect killer has no friends. Only targets.

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art. And he is the city?s most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he?s grown up in the slums, and learned the hard way to judge people quickly ? and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins? world of dangerous politics and strange magics ? and cultivate a flair for death."

i have recently finished Gone by Michael Grant not sure if the writing style is to awsome but the plot is brilliant. its about when every person over the age of 15 disapears and some people start to get powers...its very good and would recomend it even if you are over the age of 14...especialy if you like PO5 and Cherub...

I just read the book 'Slumdog Millionaire' amongst a mix of books for my course... the book is so different from the film...not only 'cause whilst in the book the protagonist is called Jamal and a Muslim...whilst in the book he is an orphan who is found by a Christian, who then names hte the child 'Ram Mohammad Thomas' so as to ensure they havent named a Muslim child as a Hindu or Christian and vice versa...

the book is probably sadder in some ways because of it... I cried   sad but then again I cried ast the film...but there you go..

If you liked 'The Book Thief', I'd recommend Markus Zusak's earlier novel 'I Am The Messenger'.. it's not quite the same material as 'The Book Thief', but it's still really good. It does make you think.
