I started reading Alex rider when i was 8, if (refering to the first post) the person has read eragon and eldest then the vilance in Alex rider is fine, i have not encounded any swear words in AH's writing.

AH said a while ago, on a website: I have 18 year old young offenders reading my books and i have met young 7 year olds who also read them, Alex Rider is for all to enjoy!

That makes perfect sense...I still read them and I'm 15 and I know a little 7 year old that reads them, so he's right there.

Hmmm i dont know, they're alot less offensive than some of the things on the 9-12 shelves but you do need to get to a certain age to truly appreciate them, altho they'd be no problem for a relatively smart 7 or eight year old, i think.

Once again, they dont really promote violence though, they're just cool that way. i think they're for everyone mature enough to appreciate them, as i said. And once again, they are alot less violent/offensive/inappropriate than ALOT of books sharing the same shelf.

it depends on the reader, I think. As you say, younger kids could very much read and enjoy them (I dont think the violence is an issue... kids see worse than what's described here on their afternoon cartoons...) and some 7 year olds can be more mature than some 14 year olds!
But the older the reader, the more they'll get from them. I appreciate these books in a way I know is much... more, than the way children/tweenagers would... but thats just a technicality, theyre entertaining for any level wink

No, Alex Rider is for Young Adults, meaning children over 12. Forget what other people say. Alex Rider novels are descriptively challenging. Also, Alex Rider books  talks about drugs, criminals, nukes, and whatnot. They are written as any other adult thrillers, just easier. Let him read Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, they are fit for kids 8 and over. Alex Rider is for teens. So, I hope I helped. Amazon says the first 5 are 9-12, and the last 2 Young Adult. Every other website says either 12 and up, young teens, and Young Adult, meaning not for anyone under 12.

and who says those websites are right? most book shops ect just get told by the publishers where to put them. and the publishers put them in places where they can make more money, because if there are 20 new young adult books being released then they will go for 9-12 because there may only be 14 relesed there = more money

I must have been some mega genius when i was 8 because I had no trouble understading them, and I think Harry potter has a higher violence content than Alex rider. I am afraid that i will have to disagree with you, and I have a quote from AH to back me up!

i started reading alex r. just a couple months ago when i saw it @ a garage sale. personally, mabye your son should wait a couple months before he reads them. then again if he read the hobbit with that scary guy that wants his preasous ring....alex rider might not be so bad. like Tamara_Knight said, you could cross out the cuss words. Mabye you could read them first and then see for yourself. because in the end really only u can decide wat ur son can and can't do.

yesterday I re-read Point Blanc and the day before I read stormbreaker.

Now that I am like 13 I can understand things at a much higher level, I understand the drug references and whatnot and I get the sciency part. So I get those things. But why did I re read them? because when I first read them when I was 8 I LOVED them, I thought they were awsome. sure I did not get some of the more complext stuff, there are drug references in point blanc but I loved them none the less and they were action packed, a good fast read and an awsome plot, and i knew that the bad guys where killing and hurting people, just did not grip the whole thing.

What makes Alex Rider so good is you can read them when you are like 10 and the 4 or 5 years later you can re read them and unlike most re reading of books you get a different feeling out of them and enjoy it in a whole new way.

Stewie: Um the first post was like 3 years ago...
