What age group are these books suitable for?

I'm surprised to read about "marking out" some words...there aren't any words in the Anthony Horowitz oeuvre that i would call unfit for children, or feel the need to mark out...

Just to clarify, (for anyone interested) I'm not sure what words are bad in England, but I consider the D word and H word as bad. They are occasionally used in the American versions. (I don't know if they switch things up between countries.)
But, after marking,I still thoroughly enjoy the books and have no qualms about letting my 11 year old brother read them.

Its kind of interesting, that there's people out there like me....not caught up in all that stuff.

Alex Rider is for 9-12? Didn't know that, it was in the Young adult section..is that 9 - 12? I really have no idea.

Thanks!  People I knew have come up with a lot of creative ways to curse without actually saying the words when we were younger.
Personally I think are a 9-12 reading level but the subject matter is for kids a little older. Maybe like 11-14/15 and older. I also think the young adult section is for books that are meant for 11 year olds and older but most the people who read the books are about 13 years old and older.

strange to see what words are offensive to others...i use those all the time, and never think twice about it.  however since i'm not realigious i supposed it doesn't quite have the same connotation.  those things don't exist anyway for me, so they're just hollow words.

i thought it went child -teenager- young adult- adult?

the young adult thing is so weird to me...just to be politically correct...and not use the term pubescent teenager :p

I think that's normally true RS but for the library system, it's just the section between children's fiction and adult fiction.

Those words are mainly just a cultural taboo over here. It really does not have much to do with religion any more. I'll use them occasionally but I will watch my language around young kids.

hmm, I've heard religious(Christian) people say words like that, so I don't think its just not religious people, I think its just how u grow up, like if you grow up hearing swear words, then your likely to say swear words later.

yeah the library system says Young Adult, so thats what I say...

there is some swear words and some pretty horrible scenes like scorpia assasins and killing i started when i was 9 and i loved them but i dont remember any cusing then (most of the time he says that he swore to himself instead of saying the word. i think that swearing is just some thing people they do just cuase they cant think of another word.

im 14 and i still enjoy alex rider and i probably will for a long time
i still also dont curse cuss i think that it is wrong too do and that people should realy watch there mouths i ignore the cussing in alex rider.

It is interesting to see people's opinion's on those words. If you don't mind a slight tangent, it's funny that religion was brought up, as I am a Christian. That's my main reason for marking words. And, as _angel brought up hearing swear words growing up, my parents don't swear and they are Christians.

I do apreciate that most of the time it just says he swore. And I agree that people should watch their mouths. It was kind of funny to think of substitutes for the words when I read Alex Rider out loud.
To get more on topic, I think that younger kids will be able to enjoy the books and when they get older, they will understand better some of the more complicated parts of the plot, or things like cloning, and some of the jokes.

Well I do try to mind my language when around others, especially around young people.  And extra especially when in the classroom.
I'd never use them in a sentance though, like some people go "and i got that f-in book", with me i only use them when something goes wrong, it's like a exclamation.

There are a lot of jokes that i didn't get until i was a lot older, like when i was 18 or 19.  subtle things that you just don't think to notice before

T_K I'm a Christian too, but I've heard people, who I at least thought were Christians, swear before..soo..yeah
and I've heard my mom swear under her breath when, like, my dog got out and was running around the streets, or something like that.

its interesting how many people on here r Christians, like, in the Sig it says Jesus Freak and stuff like that.

yeah I think it is more enjoyable when your older and actually know what their talking about, it probably wouldn't be as funny if you were younger and they were cracking all these jokes and u had no idea why it was funny.

and yeah Alex only swears in his head, i think, he doesn't go all out and start swearing at a people.
and he doesn't say, like, really bad cuss words.

im 17 and love these books so much think im to old for these books but still there really good also llove the harry potter books
