That's not true (to mac611), Alex was shot in Eagle Strike. Though he was wearing a bulletproof jacket, I'm not sure about Scorpia yet (I just finished Eagle Strike).

I really love this book when i read it I could see images playing out in front of me like a movie. About Alex getting shot in Eagle Strike It happens in chapter 17 "Fasten Your Seat Belts" he's wearing a bullet proof vest.

The guards wouldn't see the wires because they would be covered in blood and they were probably really thin. They didn't look closely because Alex put on quite a show of... well, dying!
