Who would I be... If I'd never met Alex Rider?

« Reply #45 on: April 18, 2011, 06:35:40 PM »

He didn't really KNOW his uncle, though. I would SO have WAY more books; maybe visits to a phsycyatrist, a school bully, etc.

I'd make the books have more feeling. If anyone gets what I even mean. I keep comparing them to Harry Potter where there was just so much raw emotion. There's only really two emotions in Alex Rider. Adrenaline, of course, and a little bit of love like family love I mean. I say it's because a female wrote Harry Potter. Don't mean that in any kind of sexist way, but I'm pretty sure that's the big difference between the two series.

OMG, I can't agree at all. Harry Potter has such unreal emotions and forced feelings IMO. Alex Rider books have real emotions from the character of Alex. Alex's emotions come from his fear and his anger and his desire to just be a normal person and his screwed up past. Harry's come from what? That he wants to have love? Not sure but I feel the Alex Rider books are more real on feelings of love, loyalty, caring, and fear as opposed to the unreal world of Harry Potter and Harry does have more room to develop friendship as the plots are so....slow moving and take forever to get going. Alex and Tom, Alex and Paul, Alex and James Sprint for instance all have these bonds of friendship and loyalty. Alex Rider never fails to amaze me at the loyalty that happens and/or the love/hate stuff. Even Yassen says he loved John Rider and adds that he loves Alex too. Not sure what that meant but there you have it.

Well Alex Rider wasn't supposed to have any emotion to it at all...the spy world was supposed to be portrayed as gray and dark and cold with no feeling. It's the reason we barely know anything about any character other than Alex, because AH wanted it that way. Which really does make sense. I just prefer more emotion in my novels. Harry and Alex are fighting for the exact same thing...a normal life and the love they've never had. See the end of Scorpia when he sees his mother as a reference. I don't even consider Alex friends with any of those people but Tom. He was fond of them but that was about it...

No, because Alex doesn't BELONG to the spy world!

Yes he does though...he even says so himself..just not at this age. If there was going to be a future book, I'd bet you my life it'd be him as a full time spy.

He says he would be the perfect spy because everyone tells him that. But if he really was going to be a full time spy he would first have to be dead inside, which even after SR, I don't think he is. I can't really see Alex working for MI6, especially if he lives in America for the rest of his life. Maybe forensic science or something like that.

Regardless of if everyone tells him that or not, he's perfect and amazing at it. It's meant for him. But of course that doesn't mean he has to do it.

What if he's emotionally scared for life?

That's what I'm thinking. Before Scorpia Rising I would've said 100% he would grow up to be a spy. But after Jack...I'm not so sure.

Revenge on who? Everyone in Scorpia is either dead or in jail.

Could be revenge on Mi6. but strangely he doesn't seem to blame them.

Well if MI6 haddent got Alex off the hook for almost killing those drug dealers in Point Blanc, AR would still be in a prison or mental hospital right now. But i see what you mean.

we only hear athat everyone in Sxcorpia is in jail or "on the run" from Mrs.Jones. Not all of them have been captured yet if they ever all will be. We also heard that Scorpia was finished in SNAKEHEAD and they weren't. We also heard that there wa s a deal that they would leave Alex alone after SCORPIA or ARK ANGEL but they didn't.

In addition...I cannot agree that Alex did noit have friends. He seemed to make them wherever he went. He didn'dt have to strive for a normal life...he already had one. I can't see that Harry had or wanted a normal life...if he wanted a normal life why go bac t othat evil school every year?

In addition. Alex just needed to be left alone to have a normal life...he already had one...he had friends, was good i nsports, had girls after him, etc. He made friends whereever he went. It was Alan and Tulip that converted him and perfverted his life.

Yes but at that time it was QUITE obvious Scorpia wasn't done. There were more books, duh. But now I'm 100% positive if you asked the authot he'd say they're all captured and finished with. Uhm, you're missing the whole point of Harry Potter? Hogwarts is what normal people do...in the WIZARD world. That is a normal life to them. The big difference I can thimk of is that Harry wants revenge and won't stop until he does...and Alex doesn't care about revenge on Scorpia. Then again, Voldemort wants to rule the world, Scorpia doesn't. And maybe we have different definitions of friends...I consider a friend someone you actually have to your house...hang out with. Well that's what good friends are, you can have just talk to friends too I suppose.
