well, then I guess using your reasoning i should start posting things against war movies and trying to convince everyone not to watch them anymore because in my eyes it glorifies war, which is always bad in my opinion.
War movies might be jsut as much cause to violence in this world as horror movies.

I dont know about yall, but my favrite movie has to be Forest Gump. That movie is so FUNNY! It is just very long.
It is definately one of my top 5 movies, together with labyrinth, american history x, monty python's search for the holy grail and the gathering. Allthough I wouldn't really say i'd like it for the humour. yes it's funny, but there's so much more to this movie than it just being funny
yea i kno wat u mean. it does have lots more to it. I noticed said monty python and the holy grail. I love that movie. especially he part with the rabbit and the hol yhand granade and the nights wo say nit. it is so funny.

3 is the number you shall count, no more no less. not 1 not 2 not 4 not 5 but 3
and then when the king counts "1 2 5" "3 sir" "3"
I love "That's not a monster! that's a little rabbit" and then the rabbit lunges up and kills them very effectively hehe
and the part when they have to go over the bridge of death "you must answer me these questions three, ere the other side you see"

It never says violence is right, it says that there are those in the world who would think that it is justified. You have to widen your view a little bit - like suicide bombers. Just think about them for a second, the suffragettes used violence - they were terrorists but they're seen as heroes. An islamic radicalist thinks that they are SAVING THE WORLD - saving us from our sins.
Right, i've lost track of what i was saying....
Showing cruelty doesn't mean that they are saying - 'go out and be cruel', they're leaving it for you to judge. Also, your other point about 'most of us being repelled by death' - i beg to differ, there are many, MANY people in the world who do not find death unattractive. Death is very romanticized - by the media most of the time - And the people who romanticise death are brought to their senses when they see movies like Saw. 86% of people who commit suicide have an IQ higher than .... damn, i forgot the number, but it was pretty high. That gives you an interesting insight - ignorance is bliss eh?
Also, there's no light of day in a cinema.
I'm not a 100% Saw fan, I thought that it was ott with the gore but I think it's become fashionable to criticize it.
I highly disliked Click. I think it was supposed to appeal to those that love that kind of American comedy - or maybe just younger kids. But I didn't like it. They took an idea that was pretty cliche but could have made a good movie if made really really well and they made the kind of movie where you counted how much popcorn you had left. And went to the toilet like 50 times.
Don't get me wrong, i think that there are many movies without the blood that make me appreciate life. Click just wasn't one of them.
Ohh my bad i thought you were mature enough to understand what i meant by light of day sorry i gave you to much credit..
Click really wasn't a comedy yeah there were some funny parts but the guy fast forwards through his whole life and misses everything that was worth being there....
I'm sorry, but...
YOU'RE accusing someone of being immature? You have one point, which has been countered time and time again with sensible arguments. Not only that, but you've rambled about it so much, I can't even remember your original point.

And how has death been glamorized besides in horror movies i don't see it....
Ever read Shakespeare? Every single one of his plays, the tragedies, at least, have a certain amount of murder and violence in it. And, while Saw is a film and Shakespeare wrote plays, this still backs up Interfectrix's point.
Finally, Saw is not about killing people for fun. It's about a psychotic cancer patient who thinks that by making these people
torture themselves
, he's showing them that after throwing their life away, they have to fight to get it back.
If you'd seen the film, you'd know that at the very beginning, the point is made that the guy doesn't actually torture anyone. He sets up traps for them, it's their own fault if they don't listen to him.
Any more recycled points for me to rip to shreds?

OK, OK, calm down, it's only a movie.
Personally, if I had to choose a number one movie of last year, it'd be The Guardian. I never thought I'd see Aston Kutcher play a serious role well, but he does in this one, which is about the American version of the Royal National Lifeguard Institution (sorry, being English means I don't know the exact name of the American form). Admittedly you can tell what will happen from about an hour in, but the story is very strong emotionally. Even if it does have Kevin Costner playing a major role and Bryan Adams performing a (very good) song on the soundtrack (unfortunately it hasn't reached the carts yet).

Actually, we were having a very calm debate. OK, I admit, I was annoyed at the ignorance with which thefreedomfighter made his point, but I feel strongly about this as the Movie Violence debate is one I've had over and over again.

didn't freedomfighter once say that she was a girl? or am I totally confused now? well i'm also extremely headached, so that might be a reason
anyways...a lot of war movies don't show like during war the way it really is though. There are some good ones who do, but there are plenty that make it appear better than it is.
I think it's a long jump to say that any particular kind of movie will make people do violent things. I mean there are so many movies out their in each genre, and each genre has a couple of movies that ignites violence.
The riots in belgium in which it got declared independant were started after a theatrical piece about a mute girl being raped. It is a drama, and yet it ignited so much violence. It wasn't horror though.
And then how do you explain all those violent acts commited by people in the past? they didn't even have movies yet to watch, let alone horror movies.
I think acts of violence and cruelty are inherent to people. For many, these movies may even provide an outlet to them, so they won't turn to it in real life.

correction for you to try to tear apart but can't becuase i do have a point.
Movies that show pure torture such as Saw is wrong chainsaw massacre awful movie to it gives a bad idea to people who may be un stable.
And i have seen Saw made my younger brother leave it fifteen minutes into the movie i stayed to see if it got any better or had a point found out it didn't was just concocted by some film writer who was running out of ideas. Another movie i think is terrible is hannible rising. And who is going to listen to someone who is insane! it's common logic not to!
OK, you have a point, but you can in no way compare Texas Chainsaw Massacre to Saw. TCM is about torturing people for someone's sick pleasure, whereas Saw is about people torturing each other, to make them appreaciate life.
And how old is your brother? Films like Saw are rated 18, or R, or whatever, for a reason, and that reason is that they are not suitable for children under 18. I agree that they can cause violence in young or impressionable children, which is why these children should not be allowed to see them.

Were you addressing me when you said that R means under 17? Cause in the UK it's 18.
The world can live without any film, and I can see your point, but I think there are a lot more horror films about murdering people that can be gotten rid of before Saw. I suppose I shouldn't have seen it either, as I'm only 14, but I chose to, and I knew that it wouldn't make me want to go out and kill. If someone is inclined to kill there will always be something to spur them on.

I like when they reach Camelot, do the dance thing, then "No, let's not go there. Camelot's a silly place."
I also like their 'horses'.

Your only 14? and your parents let you see it.. hmm bt besides the point.
yeah people will find things spur them on but we shouldn't give them more things to spur them on we should make it almost impossible for them to find something that sprus them on. Do you get what i'm saying?
Yeah, I understand your point, but I think if there's anything that affects people inclined to kill, it's computer games, in which they actually experience killing an opponent.
And my parents aren't bothered what I watch, because they know that I'm not stupid enough to reenact any of it, and because they know that it's pretty much impossible to censor what children see now anyway. Plus, my mum doesn't know I've seen it, cause I downloaded it.

Because there's no proof that it actually does spur them on. Also it's a violation of freedom of speech. After Columbine, there were quite a few studies done to see if violent video games and movies cause the massacre. They could not prove that Doom caused the teens to bring guns into the school. Bullies caused that violence not video games. We need to place blame where it is appropriate if we're going to try to stop killers.
Lastly suicide IS murder. It's murder where the victim and suspect are the same person.
