I thought Sarov was an interesting character. Even though he was insane his motives made more sense than most of the villians.

Yeah, sure, but I think Sarov wanted the USSR and Vladimir (is that right?!!) back a bit TOO badly. I mean,you know when he was galloping around on that horse with Alex like a demented hyper hamster saying that Alexei and Alex would bond and rule the world...!!! If he was in a populated area doing that in public... Ermm... Mister Security Guard? Is there an insane asylum around here?

Whatever. Anyway, BOT! Sarov really went overboard with grief from his loss. Someone should have helped him through it. Conrad may be partly to blame for his motivation.

I felt bad for General Sarov, (I mean, yeah, he was insane, but,) he lost everything in a war, his son, his title, all that mattered to him, and so he thought if he created another war, he'd at least get his title back, and then Alex came along,  and, yeah, it was kinda sad.

I agree, Sarov thought of Alex Rider as the son he lost. But, Alex rejected him and that probably caused a hole so deep in his heart that he couldn't take it anymore..... and yeah sad

Well yes, it's possible.  I mean, he thought of Alex as a son.   Sarov's whole point was to regain what he'd lost in the war, (son, title, power) he already was on the edge, so when Alex said 'I hate you, you'll never be my father.'  It could have brought him down, no matter how tough he was.
