Greetings from Planet Meki!

« on: January 04, 2007, 09:09:18 AM »

When I read the Alex Rider series, I had no idea that there was a seventh book. I thought there were only six, so I was sad when it ended.
But anyways, the topic I wanted to write about was what were people's response to the last line of Ark Angel (this is assuming you didn't know about the seventh book when you read it)     :

                                           "Alex Rider was back."

I was disappointed when I finished the book, as there were so many loose ends. I remember Alex was at the dilema of whether to continue as a spy and I thought this line could mean three things:

1. That Alex Rider, the person was back and wasn't going to be a spy anymore.
2. That Alex Rider, the spy was back and was going to continue to be  a spy.
3. Or that just literally he was back on earth.

Did everyone else have similar responses?

to me it was the back on earth thing as well, but also..i don't know, pehaps a resolve that he might after all be ok with his spy status in a way?

But whats so bad about being evil? Our evil is rather agreeable. We are actually rather pleasantly evil.

Yeah, to me it only meant that he was back on earth and sort of like...ready for action.

Well the line before it sums it up I think...
Like it says he was on the the wrong side of the world, and he's back, which means he's ready to be a spy again...which I think foreshadows that his next mission will take place away from "home" (even though we already know that to be true now!)

Well, ALex didn't want to do the Ark angel mission, so I think hes back and ready to spy again.

Not really, because the first two contradict each other.

When I read that last sentence at the end, I threw the book down and screamed. I was extremely mad at how Horowitz ended it. Luckily, I found out there was a 6th book the next day, just before I was about to shun him for ending the book so horribly. ^_^;
