matt is the leader though...it would be a much stronger sadcrifice if he were sacrificed.
but that might not be the meaning of the knife at all, perhaps it's just a knife treated in a way that it can kill old ones, where regular weapons can't, so he has to use it to protect matt rather than sacrifice him
i guess, but the Inca prince said that he would regret ever having that knife, and i dont think that richard is going to regret killing the old ones with it
that's what i was tryin to remember! i knew there was a quote like that!

i thought it was a ritual knofe, not specifically a sacrificial one? should reread it i guess
maybe it is only described as a ritual knife, i dont know100%, but if its used if a ritual then it is most likely for sacrifices
well, it is never said to be a ritual knife, it only said that it was a sacrificial knife
ok then i reckon someone will DEFNITELY be sacrificed. if they have to choose they should have a 'wheel of fortune' to decide, lol.

It's "Big Wheel" Gwenda watches. I agree with the sacrificing Matt theories because it would hurt more if he had to kill Matt, rather than himself. N.B The knife is called the tumi.

i wonder how he will die (if he does )
and why
maybe he has to sacrifice himself for an alien species that comes to harvest the old ones

The purpose will probably be revealed in the 5th book. Maybe the first of the five has to be sacrificed in order to seal the Old Ones and save the world. hmmmmmm

***SPOILER ALERT***
Well...Even if one of the five was sacraficed...They wouldnt die.
In the Silver Citadel, Martain (Matt new series) says something likes "Time and death are nothing to us."

i think he meant that they will be reincarnated in thousands of years time. however their current form will still die and it will leave people worried about their current form

Hmm...well, I did see a post like this but I think it was dead, so I'm just going to repeat what I had pretty much said (but this is with more thought):
Richard might end up having to kill himself and become something like an Old One in order to help the Five win. It said that the Old Ones were defeated by a trick, yes? Soo...maybe he'll have to possess an Old One and with those nifty new Old One abilities, he can help them be defeated.
With him being sent back with the Old Ones, of course. As I said...the funny/(semi) witty guys always die.
I doubt it will be on of the Five, only because all five of them are needed to defeat the Old Ones. Unless Richard's going to have to kill them all and they spiritually beat the Old Ones.

I hate to say this but I swear I just read another topic on this subject.
BOT:
Maybe Richard will have to sacrifice an innocent person.
