Since, im not really reading the other posts.. so this may have already been said. I think Richard will accidentally injure matt or one of the five during the battle.

The purpose will probably be revealed in the 5th book. Maybe the first of the five has to be sacrificed in order to seal the Old Ones and save the world. hmmmmmm
*note* SPOILER SPOILER
what if richard has to use the knife to sacrifce one of the 5 so the trick will work? like in the past. The exact quote is "This is how it works. In your world, there is a boy called Matt. And if he were killed, I would instantly replace him...so there would still be 5 Gatekeepers. And if I had been killed, the future Matt would be called to replace me..."
"Sapling was killed."
"Yes. There was never anything for him to find at Scathack Hill. I sent him because I knew he would die there. You see, I had to let the Old Ones kill one of us. They had thought the circle was broken, the the Five would never meet and that they had won. That would make them careless. They saw Sapling die but they didn't realize that you would be sent to take his place. And that was it. We Beat them by a trick."
So maybe Richard will fake turning to the Old Ones, and have to kill one of them, possibly Jamie, so the Old ones become careless again, so they can win. Am I making any sense>

It can't be Jaime because Sapling is already dead so he wouldn't be able to replace Jaime. It would have to be someone else.

It would also be a bit repeitive
and i dont think that it can jamie either maybe....scott i dont know why but i think that if one of the 5 was to die it would be him and there would have to be a specific reason for it
(oh b.t.w. I somehow dont think richard would be able to fake turning to the oldones cause i dont know why but i think that they would just know!! maybe he could perhaps fake turning to someone in night rise and kills someone with the knife and therefor he has to turn out...and then all that you just said!!!?

that theory has been going round since evil star.....
anyway, i personally think that if that were to happen, it would be matt that gets killed, he is way more important to richard than jamie or the rest

just because of how important matt is to richard doesnt mean that if on eof the 5 were in dager that richard would not help matt would want him to help and wouldnt want richard just to stand and say naaa why should help them? iam YOUR freinds not theres?

first of all, harasoul i love you pic and your little caption thingie.
Second, you all have a good point, but who knows? At this point it could be any of them, coz we saw the connection richard made with pedro toward the end of evil star, and maybe because they are all connected, they will all act in the same manner and richard will take a liking to al of them by the end of the fifth book.

sorry iam a fast typer and sometimes type a little to fast!
it was supposes to say:
just because matt's important to richard. It doesnt mean that if on of the other 5 were in dager richard would not help them. Matt would want Richard to help aswell and richard isnt going to just stand and say "naaa why should help them? iam YOUR freinds not theres?"
make more sense?

valid point but to be honest, the plot would be much more emotional and interesting if richard has to sacrifice matt. matt is the most important person to richard out of the 5, so it would make sense if it was matt.
