Yeah he was paid... but it was kind of his fault cause he chose to go into that industry when he was a teenager. I agree, I dont think he was really as 'evil' as people say, but he wasn't the nicest guy in the world. Although, he didn't let his victims suffer too badly... and he was really nice to Alex (but with good reason)
Yeah, he was cool. But obviously not 'cool' enough for Horowitz to keep him ALIVE!

Yeah. I was really sad when he died. I like him second best under Alex as an amazing character. I liked him because his character was actully quite complex compared to other villians who just want to kill for no real good reason. Some people don`t agree and completly hate Yassen but thats just my opinion.

You said all the other characters kill without reason. This isn't true. If you look back, all the bad guys had a valid reason to be angry. They just didn't go about fixing their problems in the most convenient way.
e.g. Damian Cray was right when he said that drugs are destrying the world. His methods of getting rid of them were just a bit, uh, drastic.
Yeah, you're right about the Yassen. He's awesome. But I wouldn't rate him second-best to Alex, cause Yassen is more realistic. You see, he has faults. Whereas Alex, no matter what he does, always comes out on top.
Also, another point about Yassen's death. Yassen is an experienced agent, who is probably well-built body wise. Judging by how fit he is, I'd say he has a decent amount of chest muscle. Also, he's thrity five. Now, he got shot in the chest, right?
Now, Alex Rider. He's only 14, he's had barely any SAS training, he fit for his age but not much compared to Scorpia agents like Yassen, and he got shot in the heart (well, almost). Just because the bullet missed by a millimetre, doesn't mean that there wouldn't have been severe nerve-damage and blood-loss. Alex wouldn't have recieved medical attention straight away, unless MI6 had some sort of built-in surgery room where they could remove the bullet.
SO WHY DIDN'T ALEX DIE?!
It's not fair! How come Yassen died from a less serious injury (because of his not wearing a bullet-proof vest which is really really realy really dumb) when Alex survived from a critical injury. HUH?! ANSWER ME THAT!

well 4 one muscle doesnt help by protecting you when it comes to a bullet and he died because a bullet to the CHEST can destroy the chest cavity therefore leaving u well.....F***ed

I know, but Alex should have suffered severe blood-loss and nerve damage. All he got was a scar. Also, you can't be sure about Yassen's wound, because Horowitz doesn't specify the area in which it takes place, heonly says 'the chest'. So I suppose you can't really come to a fully accurate conclusion without the correct information... but still, it just seems odd, that's all...

yea but also remember....Damian Cray had a new (RUSSIAN) gun which if u remember it was the one Alex was gonna kill yassen with @ the begining of the book and it specified tht it was strong, however (oo fancy word) the sniper rifle used on the attack on alex was said to be less strong and meant only 2 be carried without being noticed..HA! lol...just saying....

They never said anything about the strength of the sniper rifle though... do you think sniper is a fancy word? Where do you live... on the Missisippi? Lol sniper still has way more power than any pistol, because it the guns are designed to fire long-range, meaning they'd need imense power.

wat if both the guns had the same strength but the sniper was stronger because it had 2 be sent a long distance?and yassen wouldve still died because the plane had 2 stop and they had 2 get him 2 the hospital...so either way he wouldve died. buuuuuuuuuut alex wasnt really near a curve when he got shot..it said he was just standing there on the sidewalk and then the assassin shot him.

But remember Yassen had agents at the airport and on the runway, and possibly on the plane.

The younger people are the easier and faster they heal (in most cases - obviously there are conditions that would affect that) which has a lot to do with Alex's lack of permanent damage.
It's not clear how soon Alex got to hospital either - all it says is he was 'rushed' to the hospital - he could have been there in minutes.
Anyway, back on topic:
Yassen was definitely my favourite villian because he wasn't always trying to kill/hurt Alex, and you didn't always know if he was a friend or an enemy. As well as that he had a really deep back story and once you've read Eagle Strike and Scorpia you can really understand why he does what he does.
I didn't like it when he died, but I like the way his death led into Scorpia (which was brilliant) and I think if he'd been around for Scorpia it would have been a very different book.

Scorpia would have been awesome with Yassen! Imagine if he'd taken Alex to Scorpia, and then trained him... it would have been so friggin cool!
