I agree that these books are great and that it would be neat if there were more sequels.

I like how the books can be really funny, but you can still get how dramatic a situation is.

Quote from: Lily
In Groosham Grange they found out that kids who joined the school were given new names, but in the sequel they still had their own names. And there were a few other things I didn't think made sense but I can't remember them right now.

they get witch names, like my 'wiccan' name is Rainbowstar, but those are only used while performing rituals.  they still had to sign their original names in blood and when they go outside it's their original names that's used by friends and relatives(remember how david froze his parents during summer break lol....and then compare it to harry potter blowing up his aunt huh ...anyways), so i guess whether or not they use their new names when talking amongst themselves is their own choice.  In fact in the real occult, you're only allowed to use your witch name during rituals, if you use it in every day use it diminishes it's power, or u'd have to be really powerful then it wouldn't make a difference.

it's a common thing that happens in fantasy books as well.  you have a "usename" and then when you come of age, you get your 'real' name.  but you still keep using your "usename" because if anyone knows your 'real' name it means they can have power over you

Edit(3rd of march):  I just reread the book in my bath(I do most of my reading there, lol).  No matter how many ti;es I read it, it is always a masterpiece Smiley  And in rereading it now I realised even more than before how big AH's influence is on my writing, expecially in the first story I ever wrote that was worth keeping(it was a vampire story, and there was a mirror but no reflection of the vampire which the main character didn't realise at first but later she figured it out....I really should never publish that story, it's a plagiary lawsuit waiting to happen, lol)

I haven't read any of those books yet. Sad   I should probably get on it though, considering I want to read every single book AH has written that I can get my hands on.  (That was my New Year's Resolution by the way Cheesy )

I loved Groosham Grange - it was probably my favourite of all the Horowitz books - brilliant!
Atually, i was watching 'The Stepford Wifes' last week, and I was reminded of it. It's similar, except for the ending.
Basically, in both GG and Stepford, the main character is stuck in a weird place with weird unreal over-perfect people apart from two firends (a strange boy and a fiesty girl). The 'goodies' get curious and try to work out the mystery of the baddies, and then gradually, the 'baddies' overpower them, first getting the strange boy, then the girl on their side.
I suppose you have to see/read them to get what i mean though...

I like Jill - she's somehow very real, and David is easy to sympathise with. Jeffrey is likable too, I suppose.
I liked the unholy Grail too - The transformations of the Elliots is really funny (they are great characters!) but the ending was strange.

Anyway, at the end of the Unholy Grail, there is a kind of cliff hanger hinting to another book...

that makes sense, because I was about that age when I read it... that may mean he'll wait till the Harry Potter thing is all over and decide to re-write them again or something

well they're still in print, so i assume everyone believes they're good enough, so a rewrite might not be necessary.  after all, there was 11 years between the first and second book as well, hehe
