In my opinion, an absolutely awesome book.

It was so well written and so well thought out. Anthony Horowitz has truly outstripped himself this time.
Taking a break from the usual Alex Rider Spy books he's created a whole different world and adventure. The laws of the real world do not apply to this style or 'genre' if you like.

Mystic Realism, a category it could be sorted into, would describe this book as a perfect fit for it.
Centred around one central character, told in third person, an isolated lonely setting are conventions of Mystic Realism and can fit this story perfectly.

Anyway, enough of my GCSE English, all in all this book was, and is, a truly spectacular piece of writing.

Well done Anthony.

Not 10/10.
Sorry.  Close, but no cigarillo.

I thought it was too much like HellHole by Geoffrey Huntington to be considered that great.
Sorry Mr. Horowitz, but it's true.

Ok I changed it to 9. Maybe 10 was a bit overboard. But all the same, it was good...

I give it a 8.9967554...repeating decimal out of ten....it was a brilliant book but...dunno...I liked AR series better. I'm sure my rating will go up as the other books come out...

My review:

This is the ultimate definition of horror: Realizing that you are involved in a plot involving Satan, Withces, and Roodmas.
This is the ultimate definition of surreal: This is for ages 9+, according to Scholastic.

My God this was a great book, but... i dunno... i just cant grasp the fact that this has blood, cold hearted murders, scary moments, and an extremely grisly and horrifying conclusion, all in a kid's book. My suggestion to Mr. Horowitz was that he should have added some cursing to make it more age-appropriate to who really should be reading this book-teens. Not fourth graders.

hey, hey! the book IS intense and CREEPY if you read it in the middle of the night (cuz you couldn't bear to put it down and go to sleep) in your room....when it's dark out....the coyotes in the open lot across your house howling....water dripping in the bathroom....

Okay *lol* I guess this means I really should go to the library and pick it up. I wasn't sure if I'd like it since it's such a switch from AR (then again, I was hesitant about the AR series at first, so what I am I waiting for?), but these reviews sound very good.  Smiley

(Also, side-note, we need a thumbs-up smilie.)

I dunno. When I went to my bookstore I asked them if they had it and they said that it hadn't been realesed yet! But it has to be in a library somewhere Cheesy
