Genre?

It struck me while reading SCORPIA RISING that that book seemed like a horror book or movie. If I had a genre for this one it would definitely be a spy drama but also...a mystery.

I always thought of both Alex Rider and Power of Five as thriller novels myself.

It's not a mystery because the reader knows exactly what's going on most of the time.

Well it's always a mystery what the villain in the book is doing. I remember trying to work out the plot in Stormbreaker the same way i would if i was reading a mystery novel. But i still think it's thriller because they aren't exactly set up like mystery novels, you don't exactly have a whole lot of suspects for one thing.

that just made no sense.
Horror: horrible things happen to someone who has no control over the things. It usually takes place in a place that makes the person uncomfortable at best, tortured at worst: both apply here as AH paints Cairo as a horrible place to be in, even for an hour or so. In addition, horror also usually has us knowing the villains/monsters ahead of time such as this new novel. There is no mystery as to who the villains are: they are set up right in the first 96 pages or so, and Alex doesn't even appear before that. Does that MAKE SENSE?

Yes, I do now kind of see your point about there being an element of horror in the books, however that is not the predominant genre (in my opinion).

I think it would go under Teen Thriller/Spy Fiction.
