John Crawley - Potentially important to the final novel?

John Crawley has always been a mysterious character, (not to mention my favorite) but could the man who first brought Alex into the Spy world play a large role in Scorpia Rising? Ark Angel gives us a bigger picture of Crawley. See this scene taken from Ark Angel:
"I remember when you and I first met. I could see straight away that you were something special. I knew your father. I wasn't allowed to tell you that before. I worked with him a couple of times in the field. That was before...well I got hurt and had to stop..."
And also...
" I had a run in with Scorpia about 10 years ago and it nearly did me in." It occured to Alex that had let slip a little clue about his past. He too had fought against Scorpia...
So what do you think? I for one, don't think AH would've included that piece of information just for kicks.

Hm.... I's a'guessing that Crawley is definitely going to have a part in it! I's like Crawley too! He reminds me of Crowley!

I was thinking, maybe Crawley was from Scorpia long ago. It said he had a "run in" with Scorpia that nearly killed him. But it's unlikely. I've also had lots of theories about what "i knew your dad" means. Well it's obvious what it means but knew him to what extent? And lastly, I've theorized about the Gentleman. We know he'll appear, and most likely his identity will be revealed. It fits to be Crawley. At first I didn't think so because you can hardly call anyone at MI6 nice and gentleman like but throughout the books it always mentions Crawley has a badge from the Croquet and Golf club. When I think of those sports the word Gentleman immediately comes to mind.

Well, it would quite fit if Crawley is the Gentleman.
Because, the Gentleman appeared in Point Blanc. He was the one who killed Paul Roscoe.
I think Crawley might be part of Scorpia. And he might be the one who shot Alex, since the shooter hasn't been revealed.
I've always thought the shooter was Ash, but it didn't quite add up either.
So yes, I guess you guys are right about him being in Scorpia.

Well I actually don't think he's STILL in Scorpia. My thought was that he used to be and got injured when they attempted to kill him when he quit. If he IS the Gentleman though, he's not in Scorpia, because the Gentleman doesn't belong to any organization, he just does his own thing.

Hmm... it's all very interesting. I like the idea of him being the gentleman. I also like the idea of him being who shot Alex. I've never even really wondered who shot Alex actually. It just never seemed like something important to me for some reason. But it is mysterious now that I think about it. I always just imagined it being a Scorpia goon or something unimportant to the storyline, but it depending on who did it, it could make a pretty good plot twist.
Anyways, I do think Crawley will be mentioned in the book in a rather important way. I feel like it might just be that he's the one that blew Alex's dad's cover to Scorpia (on accident probably?), but it could easily be something bigger than that.

In Crocodile Tears, Blunt mentions that Crawley has always wanted to go out into the field again, that's why he gave him the Invisible Man job. Maybe he'll return to the field and work with Alex. Something makes me think maybe his parents were killed by Scorpia too, or something, and that's why he'd have a grudge against them too.

Maybe he worked undercover for Mi6 but pretended to work for Scorpia alongside John Rider?and when they found out they attempted to kill him and now he's not allowed to work in the field anymore or do any serious business because theirs always the risk of scorpia tracking him down?

Now come to think of it the Gentlemen is kind of the odd one out, not working for anyone and the idea of Crawley being the one who shot Alex is kind of interesting since I haven't thought twice about the sniper person. And by the way if Crawley was working for Scorpia and quit wouldn't he have been killed? Like the guy who got killed by the scorpions because he decided to retire.

No, because he already said he was nearly killed by Scorpia, meaning he must've gotten away. MI6 might've found him after that and taken him in.

Crawley
being
he shooter? Never thought of that one! Though I suppose it could work. That would be an extreme shocker, but....

I think the assassin was just that, an assassin. I don't think he'll make a comeback but it is very possible. But I don't think Crawley is evil. He may have used to be possibly but I'm sure he's loyal to MI6 now.
