Where did it all start?

The one thing I've noticed in all four books is no-one is explaining how the whole "war" between the Power of Five and the Old Ones started.  Who created the Old Ones in the first place? And what was their purpose? Who decided to make the Power of Five to stop the Old Ones? Who gave them their powers or what gave them their powers?  Why give them their powers? Why not just give them their weapons and leave it at that?  Who put Matt in charge automatically?  Or, what did all those things?

Well it's pretty obvious that the Old Ones were on earth way before "The Five" so the real question is where the Old Ones came from.  My personal thoughts are that the Old Ones are aliens, but that would be too easy an explanation.  So I chose to speculate that the Old Ones are beings created from all the bad traits humans have (greed, jealousy, etc. ) and that "The Five" are people that have been altered by the good things about humans (love, hope, etc. ) in order to defeat the Old Ones.  Of course I'm not the author so I have no idea if my thoughts are accurate. Hope you can accept my answer.

The alien theory would actually work quite well. Maybe they are all aliens and thats why they have powers

The only  problem with the alien theory is that it is what every one comes up with for supernatural powers, that's why I added in my other theory as well.

it'd be a pretty big twist if they were aliens.

The Old Ones could be from one planet and the five from another. The five could be like the peace keepers protecting helpless planets from evil or some thing

I still like my other theory but that's just me.
