Be awesome! Be a book nut! - Dr Seuss

« on: November 20, 2009, 06:59:03 AM »

Hey!

Well now CT is out and everything, we have some pretty interesting new developments to speculate on - and AH has officially said there's TWO MORE to come in the AR series (*feels touch smug, and resists saying 'I told you so!'* ... *wonders if saying she resisted it is equivalent to saying it?*...) - so I thought it was about time we got a topic specifically for the future of the series.

And it was kind of taking over the CT thread! XD

NOTE: THIS THREAD FEATURES EXPLICIT CROCODILE TEARS SPOILERS

Anyway, everyone seems agreed that Yassen is still alive, and that that's going to play a part in the later AR book... but the interview here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_8340000/newsid_8344100/8344126.stm - almost makes it sound like the Yassen book is AR10... what do you guys think?

In any case, personally, I cannot W.A.I.T. for The Yassen Book. It's going to be so freaking awesome. For any doubters, here's a snippet from Snakehead that will make you see how FREAKING AWESOME it's going to BE!!!!!!!!! XD

Quote
"...He was born in a place called Estrov. You won't have heard of it, but it was certainly of interest to us. The Russians had a secret facility there - biochemical warfare - but one day the whole place blew up. Hundreds were killed - and Yassen's father was one of them. His mother was injured, and died six months later.
The Russians tried to hush the whole thing up. They didn't want to admit anything had happened, and even now we don't know the whole truth. But one thing was certain. By the end of the year, Yassen was totally alone. He was just fourteen years old, Alex. The same age as you are now."
"How did Scorpia find him?"
"He found them. He crossed the whole of Russia on his own, with no money and no food. He worked in Moscow for a while, living on the street and running errands for the local mafiya. We still don't know how he managed to find his way to Malagosto. Curiously, your dad was in charge of his training for a time. He told me the boy was a natural. It's funny, isn't it? In a way, the two of you and Yassen had a lot in common." Ash turned to Alex and he seemed suddenly ghost-like in the artificial light of the plane. A strange look came into his eyes. "John had a soft spot for Yassen," he said. "He really liked him. What do you make of that? The spy and the assassin. A bit of an odd couple, I'd say..."
And fifteen years after his father had saved his life, Yassen had sacrificed himself for Alex, repaying the debt of an old friendship.

SO EXCITED. It's like AR but... without his boundaries. Ie. dangerous... with killing! lol.

The other interesting part - that AH confirmed (to my immense surprise) in the interview - is that it ends on Alex's 15th birthday. Which means we have 2 or 3 days to have at least one other book! (I figure the 'Alex' element in the Yassen book is probably flashbacks to their interaction in the earlier books for the most part...)

And of course there's this intriguing Mystery Book he keeps hinting about!

Whadda you guys think? Grin

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to add this... where the topic left off on the CT thread =

I know that there's going to be two more books.  There was a video on youtube I found one day by accident of AH talking about crocodile tears and then he said that there would be two more books: one about yassen and then one other one.  However, he has never stated that the last book will be about Alex.  It could be about his dad or anyone.  But I personally think that it'll be about Alex.  And I agree with Arrowsong about the Yassen book ending in the revelation that Yassen is still alive.  BUt then about book 10 I think that they'll work together against one final obstacle of some sort (after Yassen fills Alex in on all sorts of things about the past)  and then they'll get out of the whole spy world forever.  They may have to hide or fake their deaths to do so, and MI6 will know but they'll let them go peacefully.

There is defo gonna be 2 more AR books, one about Yassen and anoe about Alex but the mystery book i doubt its an AR book. Probably a stand alone book or start of a new series when both PO5 and AR are finished.

This is going to be my new favorite topic!! grin

Anyways...  I think that this mystery/bonus book will be either some side Alex Rider book like the one about gadgets or something, except more fun, or a book for a new series like blondest brunette said.  However, if it is a new series I think it might be a spinoff from the Alex Rider series because why else would Anthony bring it up when asked about Alex Rider books specifically.  If the questions had been a general Anthony Horowitz interview then I could see it being a completely new series, but since the whole interview was focusing on Alex Rider books then I think this book will relate.
...I would LOVE it if it was an extensive epilogue.

Fairly obvious warning: there are CT spoilers

Didn't AH say that he woldn't write any books after Alex turns 15, though, which is about a few days away at the end of CT? So I dunno if the next book will be about alex. but there'll definitely be one about Yassen, and I can't wait!! I'm not sure how he can still be alive, though - can someone fill me in? I'm very confused, I thought he died in book 4...

ArtemisFowlIII, we are just speculating that he is still alive.  he was greatly wounded at the end of that book, but then he is just kind of left there and so we think that he wasn't completely dead yet and that he didn't die after all.  But the book will mainly be about his past and then we suspect that it will end with the revelation that he is still alive

I reckon Alex will return to the whole spy thing when he's older. It was something about what Blunt said in CT, so I won't elaborate, but I think it's too much in Alex's blood not to do so.

Yeah I said something of the sort once.  I think it was when I was talking about how he should write a whole book of his later life.  Its one of the reasons I picked this username actually.  But yeah, even though he doesn't like it, he just has an incredible tendency to find those situations and then he just can't let things slide.  I mean, who could?  when you see something incredibly suspicious and then you investigate just a little and then you discover hugely illegal things, then its just his human nature to try to stop it.

And if you weren't going to say the part in CT because of spoilers, this is a spoilers allowed thread just so you know

Wow, that's a really really REALLY good idea!!!!! That the Secret Book is AR's future, I mean. WOW, that would be SO awesome and BRILLIANT. *Steals it for her theory on this!! Wink*

I was already definitely thinking along the same lines - ie. that he mentioned it in an interview about AR, so it seems highly likely it would be on that theme/part of that series/story. I hadnt got any theories tho XD

@Dilan - Echoing AR:A - this discussion is intended to involve CT spoilers/what we know and find out from that book too. I'll add something to the first post to make it really clear... the go for it XD

EDIT:: *goes back, rereads properly these posts that she just skim-read, and realises no one actually SAID that theory in so many words...*

SPOILER FOR CT:

Well, remember when Blunt said about attempting to recruit Alex after he finished Uni? That he'd be better than their current agents? And Alex himself admitting that he couldn't help himself when it came to cases. That he kind of enjoyed it.

I really don't think he'd end up taking any other career path, except for maybe joining the army or something.

yeah that does sound very *hint hint*-ish  and how could anyone go back to being normal after experiencing such things.  everything else would seem soooo unimportant and lame after being a spy.  plus, it'd probably make him paranoid

And he's just so good at it! He pretends not to like it, but deep down we all know he was born to be a spy *shifty*
